Beginner Nikon lens hood stuck

Nikon 300mm F4 prime lens, hood is stuck fully out. Its an extending one and not the type that can be removed. It is locked solid and wont rotate or unlock. I cant even remember which way it turns now. Any advice on retracting it as it wont fit in my camera bag.

Put some elastic bands, around the lens hood, which should help give some additional grip and hopefully allow you to move it.

anti clockwise to screw back in.

Try wearing a rubber glove to give you a better grip. This is just a variation of using rubber bands but I find it easier and more effective.
