My Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-S has developed intermittent failure of the SWM, I've just got a quote back from Nikon which makes repair by them uneconomical, are there any other repair companies that would be likely to be able to repair it for any less? To be honest, then lens is still perfectly useable in manual mode so it's not a huge problem and much as I'd like to I can't afford to replace it.
 
Might be worth contacting Miles Whitehead for a quote, a lot of us in Film & Conventional go to him for servicing and repairs and he's highly recommended with very competitive pricing. I know he works on digital kit too and does a fair bit of work for pro photographers so I'd be surprised if he can't help.

Thanks Dean, He's doing a CLA on my Canonet at the moment, I didn't realise he did digital kit as well. I'll drop him an email as I'll be going down there in a couple of weeks.
 
Note to self: read OP's name properly before replying :lol:

When I took my 85-300mm to him for cleaning, he told me about a D40 he was servicing and a 24-70mm AF whizz-bang wotsit he was servicing for a guy who was shooting the Archibishop of Canterbury the following week so it'd be worth asking. :)
 
Shooting the Archbish, surely thats illegal. Its out of season.

Oh and Lehmans of Stoke are pretty good but a bit slow.
