After struggling to get my sensor cleaned I have decided just to send it to Nikon and get them to sort it.

Phoned today and was told it would be £30 which included the cost of them sending it back to me.

I was in a rush (called them just before leaving for work) so I forgot to ask a couple of things, so hoping some of you lovely members would be able to answer a few things:

1) When they get it and assess what needs done and the quote, do they let you know, do repair and then phone again to take payment over the phone?

2) How long do they generally take to do repairs?

Thanks in advance :)

Nikon won't do anything until you've authorised payment unless you fill in the form on their website and ask them to do the repair regardless.

It can take several weeks, at least if you send it to Nikon UK proper.

I use Fixation now, turn around for me is typically 3 to 5 working days.

Never had a sensor cleaned as its a 3 second job - it should be a 1 day turnaround timewise but you'd need to ask them.

if you can get there easily Fixation will turn around sensor cleans while you wait for them

Cheers

Hugh

I'm in Aberdeen so no chance of me being able to take it to Fixation (London based aren't they?)

Don't drive yet so also difficult to get there lol

Oh and what should I include with the body when I send it to Nikon?

And should I charge battery to full and include charger?

send nothing but the body - no battery - no cards - nothing else!

Camera is on its way to Nikon - hope it all goes smoothly as I just want to get out there and take good pictures.

Got it back yesterday - not impressed.

Has come back as dirty as it looked when I sent it :(

Luckily its not too bad in that I can edit marks out in Photoshop but a little annoyed at spending £30.28.

Can't be bothered to be without my camera any longer though. Will take it somewhere localish at some point and try and get a better job done on it.

Don't get me started - I put my old D1x in for a small repair two months ago and forgot all about it...
Finally remembered to log-on and check it's status yesterday - it was completed on 3rd June - thanks for the email telling me to come and collect it, you dullards!
Something else I have to rush around doing next week....lol

Hmm they were ok with me in that respect - kept me updated.

Normally I would phone up and complain but I can't be bothered with the hassle just for £30.

Even if I spoke to a manager and they asked me to send it back, that still means I have to fork out for postage again to get it to them.

Will take it somewhere more local next time I think.

Unless you speak to them how do you know that they will not cover the return cost. If I was not happy I would call them, explain why and ask that they credit the cost of the return.

I'm OK in that respect - they're only 45 minutes away from me here so I just collect and drop-off kit as and when... the coffee in the staff canteen is still bloody horrible though...

Took your advice mate - but to know real benefit.

Woman on phone just apoligised and said if I send it back in to them they will do it again.

Do it again? You mean actually do it this time lol.

Thinking of sending it to Fixation instead as I have heard nothing but good things about them - opinions?
