Hi guys,

All of my lenses are well under 2 years old, so my first question...am I covered by Nikon UK for *defects*? What about proof of purchase? And the fact that I have not registered?

The reason I ask, my 14 to 24 has a *stiff ring*, oooh err! ;) Anyway, I presume I am covered for that, so no biggy.

Now. Slightly more worrying, but really from an aesthetic point of view, I have very slightly scratched the front element of my 85mm f1.4. I hardly look after my stuff, so I can't be surprised. But out of curiosity, what would it cost to have this bit of glass replaced? What about *polished out*?

Lastly...who to use?

I hear good things about Fixation in London...however the Glasgow repair center is MUCH closer.

Any ideas guys?

Gary.

The lens warranty is one year not two. So they need to be under 1 year for warranty service. Registration isn't important for warranty - you need the purchase receipt and the Nikon warranty paperwork.

I've used Fixation a few times, and I find them excellent.

Well I guess I may be goosed on the 14 to 24 :D I think I bought it same day as the D3.

I will call for a quote!

Gary.

Gary is the scratch as bad as this one LINK

A small blemish on the front element is nothing to be concerned with, I do not think it could be polished out as there is likely to be a coating on the glass, and it is the coating that you have scratched.

I used Fixation to fix a broken SB-600 flash and it was not cheap (£120) I had a mark on my old 17-55mm I gave it a good polish and it came out, would try that first.

Gary - A J Johnstone in Glasgow are approved Nikon repair centre - I have used them and they are first class - also close enough to hand deliver - which is a plus - just opp central station.

That's quite amazing !!

Hi Gary

I used Fixation a year or so back and had no problems at all. But then again I guess the place in Glasgow is very good as well. Do you trust the postman to take it to Fixation or can you go in person the Glasgow?

I broke my sb600 at the hotshoe from it failing.
Bit of super glue and it was good to go.

AJ Johnstone are good from my experience.
They where pretty fast on the turn around too.

Polish out  You mean with a blob of T-Cut at the local body shop?

Chances are a small scratch will do nothing, but it might catch some flare. And you'll never resell it like that. Sounds expensive.

Any gear that gets used hard gets bashed around the bodywork, but most photographers have a sixth-sense that always protects the front element. And they use a lens hood.

Hi Gray have you tryed camerabase/cameratics at 122 Morniingside Road Ediburgh I buy loads of used kit from them and always have them do repairs and any serviceing .
Take the lens to him he will have a look and tell you what can be done . First class workmanship.
