Nikon Speedlights with Godox trigger?

Looking for a bit of assistance please - I use the Nikon R1 Speedlight system for close-up/macro photography which uses two of the small SB-R200 Speedlights. Can I trigger these from a Godox trigger such as the X1N? I currently trigger them using the Commander mode on a D810, but also want to be able to use them with a D500 which doesn't have an inbuilt flash that I can use to trigger them

Do u you have the SU800 Trigger ? If not and you have a Nikon SB800 or similar you can use it as a flash controller on your D500 but check out which SB units can be used as a controller as I know SB300 and SB600 DONT Offer the option.

You can't trigger an R200 with the Godox radio triggers (unless you fit them with the X1R-N (or something) receivers..) It's annoying tbh, One of my D810's expired last year and I replaced it with a D850 - which also has no pop-up, and so won't control my fleet of SB-900's. Nikon would like you to buy their SB-5000 and the daft little radio trigger that plugs into the 10-pin port. I think you should do as Phiggy's suggested - I'll bet you could pick up an SU800 for next to nothing these days. (or an SB900, 800, 910)

I use one of these to remote trigger my SB-900 from my Nikon D810

got mine here and a newer version than shown, well worth the money

There are lots of iTTL radio triggers that will trigger regular Nikon flashes (and Pixel make some good stuff - I use their remote camera triggers) - the problem Si has though is that his flashes are SB-R200's mounted on an R1 rig which looks like this - nowhere to put the receivers, and the flashes don't have "feet" to fit in a hot shoe, or any remote port for a cable (which would seem like an obvious thing to have on a flash designed to sit 6 inches away from the camera). https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-p...s/r1-wireless-close-up-speedlight-system.html

It's easier to just put an SU800 or an SB900 flash on the hot shoe of the D500. The SU800 will be lighter - but more expensive as it happens, but there are some 3rd party ones for £60 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SU800-Wi...985565?hash=item46aa7c549d:g:ToUAAOSw-LldX4h1

No idea how well they work though :)

Thanks guys, I'm afraid I don't have the SU800 trigger (I bought the Speedlight kit 2nd hand and it was the R1 and not the more expensive R1C1 with the trigger included). My first thought was to pick one up, but at £350 new or around half of that used it's not that tempting! It's be ideal from a size and weight perspective, but the price is eye-watering!

I do have an old SB-700 knocking around somewhere which doesn't get used, so I could have a look at whether I can use this as a Commander. May work in the short term, but ideally I'm looking for something less bulky/heavy for using out and about. The D810 + macro lens + TC or extension tubes and the twin light is already plenty heavy and bulky enough for hand-holding

Edit: doesn't look like the SB-R200's will work with one of the Godox receivers as they aren't hot-shot mounted

Yes, exactly this - there is no hotshoe to attach to a receiver. Also I suspect a receiver would too large - the flash units seem to be about the size of most of the triggers! There is an 8 pin port on the flash units which looks to be for flash tiggering, but possibly only with the SU-800

According to the Nikon webby - there is no trigger port. Not sure what the 8 pin port is for!

Your SB700 will act as a Master https://kenrockwell.com/nikon/sb700.htm

According to the R1C1 manual there's an 'optional TTL cord SC-30 to connect between the TTL cord terminals of the SU-800 and SB-R200' - not sure why you'd need that given you can wirelessly trigger them, but that does appear to be what it's for!

Thanks, I'll have a play around with it and try and weigh up whether it's too cumbersome or not (no time like the present when there are a couple of the SU-800 triggers available used)
