Im sorry, i really am, i love the rivalry relationship between Nikon and Canon, when at Focus 07 i was in a Nikon presentation on portraiture when the guy mentioned that canon users were banished from the nikon stand etc etc having a laugh and banter.

So what do you prefer? Nikon or Canon, get the debate flowing...

For me Nikon, purely because i have never owned a Canon DSLR and i have got used to everything Nikon, My 2 canon EOS film cams died and i didn't like the feel, sound etc of the Canon 40D when i used my friends.

Oh come on, it's always worth a revisit! Killjoys :P

I too enjoy the rivalry - the reason I use Canon is that my first camera was a Powershot G5, so the similarity of controls when I moved to a dSLR was a bonus. Now I wouldn't switch from Canon cause I have lenses that I wouldn't be able to take with me and it's all lovely and familiar.

Also cause Nikon is for losers ha ha.

Ha ha ha.

Srsly though folks, I can't really tell the difference. Roughly equivalent levels of camera from each manufacturer aren't that different from each other really, are they?

A Canon owner and a Trekkie

I'm a canon owner but I'd say I'm a Mamiya user 1st. Or Ericsson perhaps.

Either way, I have some canon's, I like them but Nikon is an itch I'd really like to scratch.

J D Power survey of customer satisfaction 2007

1 Nikon
2 Sony
3 Canon
Just some info to stir things up a bit

Remember this is not what's best, just who is happier.

I use Nikon because I was passed down an old FM2 and some lenses from my uncle a long time ago. I just stuck with it so I could use what lenses I had with digital.

As far as the rivalry, lol, I think it's a little silly. Nikon make great cameras, Canon make great cameras. Other companies make great cameras. In the end, it's the person holding the damn thing that makes the difference. :D

The J D Power survey shouldn't count for much. Looking at the 2008 figures, they give an 823-points-out-of-1000 top score and 798 points for the bottom score, which is a difference of about 3-effing-percent.

I wouldn't say I have brand allegiance as I started with a Samsung P+S, moved to a Pentax D-SLR in April then bought a D300 in Sept. I bought based on advice I got here and the type of pictures I take and my budget the D300 fitted perfectly. I will now stick to the Nikon brand but that is only because my lenses and accessories will all be Nikon.

I prefer Nikon simply for its ergonomics and probably because I'm used to the way they work. I just can't get along with the feel of Canon bodies apart from the pro bodies, but for the others they don't fit very well in my hands. I also find the design of most of them quite ugly/bland. Having said that, I have used a few Canon DSLRs, I like the controls and I love its performance.

I think this old rivalry will have to accommodate new contenders soon from sony, olympus and pentax etc soon. For many years Nikon and Canon had the market between them but now I am not so sure.

Use what you want, what you like and what gets results for you............

Neither!

Tried a 40D and could not get on with it,

Didn't like the look of the Nikons, and dont particularly like the 3:2 image format.

Olympus FTW, just to be differnt!

My DSLR is a Canon.
On the day I ventured out to buy a camera, I tried a Nikon D80 and it seemed very nice, felt comfy in my hands. Went of for a wander to think about it, had a beer and came back to find it had been sold (only had one in stock at this point - a few days after crimbo 2006) So I tried a 400D this did not feel quite right, so the lad suggested I try it with the battery grip. Now that felt great and as I would have to wait a couple of weeks for a D80 to come into stock I bought the Canon.
So that is how I now use Canon, saying that I have a cracking nice slim Nikon P&S.

I tried a mates Nikon D40 and couldn't get used to it.

So I bought a Canon. Took to it straight away !

Plus, "Canon" is a bit more butch sounding isn't it.....

:olympus:
'ave that you herd of sheep!

:D
Let the flaming commence

When i was buying, My shortlist was Nikon or Pentax, I went Nikon as the D80 just felt better in my hands and the fact a good friend of mine also had a Nikon meant we could use eachothers lenses.

As for Canon, im sure they work just as well as Nikons but for me, the images they produce look slightly post processed already, whereas Nikons have a real natural look to their images..

that is of course, IMO..

I've got that itch as well :|

The Nikkor 50mm 1.8 is just as good to buy and sell and the canon version mate. :D

I've had the F1.4 for at least a month :p

Oh for the love of god, will someone let this debate die already? It makes me cry :shake: :D

There there, Betty, there there. It's a boy-thing.

i bought my nikon d40x coz it had the '?' button which tells you what each function does, as at the time i knew nothing about photography. it was the most used function i used on the camera and it helped me alot plus at the time, people were moaning about the kit lens on the canon.

also, 'canon' makes me think of the old clapped out printer i used to have!
