Nikon Warranty Repairs (UK)

Hi,

I have a Nikon D40 which has an issue where the flash doesn’t ever trigger. I understand that this is a common issue with this model. I am still under the 2 year extended warranty that I got with the camera but am nervous about sending it in to Nikon as:

1) I sent off my cashback claim twice and faxed it once and they still claim not to have received it and failed to follow up or deal with the claim
2) I had to spend about 3 hours on the phone to get them to register that I had a valid extended warranty

I just get the feeling that if I send it to them that it will never come back and be no record of it being received. Am I being paranoid? Does anyone have any recent experience with Nikon servicing and have any hints to cover myself? Ideally I would have liked to drop it in at an authorised service agent but there only seems to be a handful and the one near London where I live is professional only. Does anyone know of one near that I can use?

I am a complete amateur so excuse beginner kit!

Thanks,
Wayne

I sent my D300 and 300mm f/2.8 VR back for focus adjustment earlier this year with no problems. The only off putting bit was the first contact answer phone message gave me no idea that I had got the right number/Nikon/support and was very abrupt. As soon as I spoke to a real person they were very reasonable.

Yep, I think thats the lady I have been dealing with

No need to phone, as they can't comment on the phone and will ask you to send it in:

Send it Royal Mail Special Delivery:

Clearly describe the fault, and enclose the yellow warranty form and your purchase receipt. You do not need to worry about the extended warranty from Homeserve which is just poorly organised and worthless.

EU law gives you a 2 year warranty anyhow, and Nikon will fix it for free if under 2 years old.
