No adobe flash on ipad?

You can't have Flash on your iPad - thank Steve Jobs, bless him. :D
 
If you have legitimate access to the videos you can try converting them to .mp4 - I did this with some training videos in .mov by using Aiseesoft and it works a treat.
 
The world is slowly leaving flash, but it will take 3 years or so as so much content is in flash and needs to be replaced. It is also easier to work with, so videos we get made are still done in flash.

The main problem with flash and a huge number of adobe products is they have major security flaws (adobe has the highest number of vulnerabilities in their software, far higher than Microsoft)
 
Apple won't support Flash, so you're out of luck.

Flash is on the decline and will be replaced by HTML5 eventually, but right now it is a fast, efficient and mature platform for delivering rich content. It's also increasingly popular as an embedded/mobile application platform, so it's not going away anytime soon.

HTML5 and the various graphics/media 'standards' are still going through the long-drawn out legal and techno-evangelical warfare stage. It's irritating that Apple chose to inflict this on consumers when it wasn't necessary.

I can see why they did it, as flash is a old as the hills, and got more holes in it than swiss cheese.

on the flip side most of the web runs with it and as you say its an popular dev platform, although MS is now ditching flash on Windows Metro, has Apple started a trend?

There's already a trend....I just think Apple jumped the gun and inflicted a techo-geek war on consumers when it didn't need to.

HTML/Javascript heavy website run like crap compared to Flash, the standards and browser implementations are still all over the place. HTML5 is undoubtedly the future, but the future isn't now.

Adobe is just going to shift it's dev tools to output HTML5 instead of SWF format, you can already compile Adobe Flex to iOS/Android/BB.

Without Flash, the internet would have been a very dull place the last ten years.
 
yup and being 10 years old its starting to show its age now. its a horrible buggy piece of software and i can see why its been/being dropped. that and its a PITA trying to administer an AD with adobe releasing updates every other day (exageration).

but why every (at least the major players) website dont have a non-flash version these days is beyond me. especially with iphones, ipads etc being so popular.
 
Because HTML is still a total pain in the arse to support across browsers, that's why :P

What's buggy about Flash exactly? I hardly ever have problems with Flash content. I have problems all the time with website that don't work properly in Chrome, don't work in Firefox, etc etc.
 
I've had flash hang firefox on my mac, had to force quit, it had caused the add-ons to fall over.

Just like when Apple dropped the floppy disk drive from their machines, everyone panicked, after a while other companies followed suit and everyone moved on, now we don't use floppies at all.

Technology needs to move on, but someone or a company needs to buck the trend and get the ball rolling, Apple have certainly done that.

The problem isn't Flash, it's the developer that wrote the Flash/Flex applet :) I've seen Flash Player crash very occasionally, but it pales into insignificance compared to the number of times I've had to faff about switching browsers because some shoddy HTML/JavaScript doesn't render correctly.

Flash gets far too much stick. As a developer I would dearly love to be able to use HTML5 for rich graphical interfaces, but it's simply not ready yet. It's still a total nightmare supporting different browsers, and on most of them the rendering performance is dreadful compared to Flash.
 
I think people make too much of the fact that the iPad doesn't support Flash when other tablets "supposedly" do ... I say supposedly because I have played with a lot of different tablets and I always try a few flash based sites on them when I do and the results are generally quite poor. Browser lock-ups, device crashes and navigation not working are very common on them, even on devices like the RIM Playbook that make a big deal about supporting flash it can be a very bad experience.

Apple are all about the user experience so I can understand them not supporting it for that reason alone but coupled with the dent that online flash based games could make in their app store revenues I guess its a no brainer for them at least.

Only site I miss flash on is the standard BBC website where the embedded content wont play, there's an app for most of the content on there anyway and I dare say they are working on revised versions of the pages also so I guess that wont be forever.

Sorry, you'll all have to speak up a bit. I've been deafened by the roaring silence from the Apple-haters, who were all bemoaning the lack of Flash on the iPad - then found that Win8 tablets won't be supporting it either.

All of a sudden the lack of Flash support is irrelevant.

Really? That always assumes Win8 will be a contender in the marketplace for tablets...

Have to say, I really don't get tablets, but then I don't really get smartphones either. I must get out more (which would probably prompt me to "get" such devices ;) :D)

I've got an iPad and a HP Touchpad and the iPad NEVER gets used for browsing

I can understand why we should move away from Flash but not supporting it while it's still used on 90% of the web is short sighted from MS & Apple :bang:


It would be like Ford only making fuel cell cars because we'll stop using fossil fuels....





(90% is a made up number for illustration purposes only ;))

They will be supporting it, just not natively.

There will be a Flash plug in for IE10. Windows 7 doesn't support Flash either, nor does Vista or XP. You just download Flash and it is supported. It will be the same for Windows 8.

I have no problems with Flash on any of my android devices.

As for Flash being 10 years old? what has that got to do anything? Its not the same code that was running 10 years ago, what Muppet believes that? Javascript is older than Flash, C++ that you use to program for iOS is older than that. Does that mean they are crap?

Flash has its uses and will be with us for a very long time.
