Noise reduction- D5000?

This is such a novice question...
But anyway, I haven't had my D5000 long but am having a terrible time with noise in my shots...
When I had my D40 and D3000 I had no trouble...

I've tried playing around to try and reduce it but I'm not really getting anywhere.
Any suggestions?

Try Noiseware community it's free and very good.

Sorry, can't offer any advice on your body, but I have the D60 and makes the higher ISO more usable.

I use a program called Neat Image to get rid of a lot of the noise I get at high ISO's. Might be worth a look.

Can't get a picture at the moment- not using my usual PC, will post one later...

Most strange as I understand that the D5000, D90 and D300 share the same CMOS sensor. This should be superior to the older CCD sensor of the D3000 with regard to noise, although mine is by no means terrible.
