Nokia Phones

Hi Ross,
Depends on what you want to use the phone for. I have a Nokia 5800 and its stuffed full of music and podcasts and I love it - there are loads of handy apps you can download for it for free too.
Rob

Like Rob said, depends what you are going to use it for, the phone bit is a given :)

My wife has the 5800 on Vodafone and she loves it, touch screen and all.

One of my colleagues has the new Sony Ericsson touch phone and that's rubbish, lots of software glitches. I like my Sony 905, 8mp camera on it too

Take a look at http://www.gsmarena.com/reviews.php3 for decent reviews of phones, includes user feedback too.

One thing to consider too is the carrier, they all put their own software on the phones, Vodafone's is a bit bloated, I ended up flattening mine and put the unbranded firmware on it.

I love my E71...... fancy the E72......... but it's want you want it to do drives your choice......:D

Ive got a 5800, superb phone, loads of apps availablr for it, expanadable memory slot and a lot of music, cant really fault it. Having said that I did get to play with a HTC HD2 yesterday and loved it, the screen on the thing is awsome.

I have the 5800 and I hate it.
I find it frustrating as there are times that I have to use the stylus and this is silly for a touchscreen phone.
The touchscreen response is dire and as a long term Nokia owner, I am beginning to think they are going to have to do something special to regain their status in the mobile phone market.
They've done nothing exciting with Symbian for a long time and dare I say it but Apple and Google Android have come a long way with their OSes.
I'm not trying to put you off, each to their own but when my upgrade is due, I wont be getting another Nokia.

Hi, I used to have the e63 which is a 71 without GPRS and it was a good stable phone but the screen is just too small for any kind if emailing and the keyboard functions great but its fiddly at the best of times but battery life is superb.
I now have the N97 mini and it is simply superb and just functions as a phone should do with everything you need straight out of the box, it is far superior to the original N97 which was really a bad phone due to a memory problem and Nokia may be recalling all N97 and replacing them with the mini (This is from the nokia page on facebook).
The mini is not the fastest phone but its no slouch either and the first thing you MUST do if you get one is turn OFF the nokia text notifications as they cost 10p a message and theres lots, also upgrade the original maps to the latest free sat nav maps from OVI and you have a device that does everything except make a cuppa.
As for the 5800 two workmates have them and one says its Nokias answer to the iphone and its brilliant yet the other who isnt much interested in music says its awfull but I cant say anything as I have never had one, the nearest I got to a dedicated music phone from nokia was the n91 which was fantastic but the microdrive was a bit slow.

My choice was between the HTC HD2 or the N97 mini and I am just so glad I chose nokia

One more thing, choose a contract with free unlimited internet to get the most from the n97 as it will want to refresh all widgets and your email.

Voda are doing a £30 p/m with 500mb yet the best I have seen so far is my contract

£30p/m 1000 mins to other networks 3000 mins to landlines unlimited to other Virgin phones unlimited texts and unlimited internet, but I have been a contract customer and media customer for 5 years but apparently this had no bearing on my contract

Thanks Dangermouse for your input, look forward to hearing how you get on with your N97 mini.

I have now got a contract sorted and should be picking the phone up tomorrow.

I have an N97 mini 900 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited landline, 500mb data allowance and a night in a hotel for 2 for £35 a month.

I love it Ross and as its permanently connected to tinterweb its like having my PC with me everywhere, probably the best phone on the market at the mo and it means I get to access TP anywhere BONUS

This is my very first post on TP using the n97......just to show, if I can use one anyone can.....fantastc phone

Glad your are enjoying your new phone Dangermouse, I am sadly not.

When I ordered my contract I asked the advisor would it be ready to pick up in store on Saturday and he said yes no problem so I went ahead and got the contract as if I couldn't get it on Saturday I would have just went back to the o2 store and picked up an E71 there and then on their contract.

So I am a bit ****ed off that Vodafone have not delivered as the whole Idea was to have the phone today when I have nothing else to do so I could spend the day getting use to using the phone and sorting out getting stuff off my old phone.

Waiting on an email from Vodafone but doubt I will get my new phone until Tuesday now. Good to see nothing has changed at Vodafone since I was last with them 8 years ago. Also the staff in my local Vodafone store are useless.

On the other hand o2 have been very helpfull, no problem getting my Porting Authorisation Code so I can keep my number on the new phone.

I've kinda owned three of the phones on your list..... all except the 5800, and I had the E71i not the E71 and I currently have the N97 not the N97 mini

They're all great phones IF you really need them, with the N97 being the pick of the bunch for obvious reasons.

However, if you need a bullet proof Nokia, the BEST one I ever had (and kinda wish I still had it) you should look at the Nokia E51. I only got rid of it coz I couldn't get it to sync with Mail for Exchange at the time, to the E71i got preference

the mini is virtually the same all bar 2mm ish on the screen size and much less memory built in but 8gb is ok and if you do need more it will take cards up to 16gb giving 24 but not 32 where the n97 seems to have its glitches.
Have you had any access problems as 75% have and the other 25% are very happy with them, also have you had any email or anything from nokia saying they are recalling them and swapping them for the mini or is this a rumour

Well I still don't have my new phone and still can not get hold of anyone at Vodafone to find out what is happening.

Starting to wish I had went to o2 now but you live and learn.

Hopefully I might get it before the end of the week. Not happy.

Something not right here as contract phones are always next day on the Mainland, I would ask them to confirm shipment and ask for tracking, my phone was tracked by UPS and delivered 18hrs after the order was placed do you have a tel no you can call from another vodafone for free to chase it up

Finally got a dispatch email tonight after various emails and phone calls, phone should be in store tomorrow for me to pick up so we will see.

Still think it is a poor service or am I expecting too much. Just hope I get a good one with no problems or I will be making a complaint.

Thank you everyone for your feedback, I am currently trying to decide between the E71 or N97 mini but the reports of the bigger N97 being unreliable is whats putting me off at the moment.

Well I was an early purchaser of the original n97 and there's no doubt it was a bit flaky when it was first launched on the market. However there have been a few substantial firmware upgrades since then, including a memory re-organiser which runs on the phone as a one-off and and gave me over 20mb of free memory.

I can't fault the phone at all now it's a cracker.

I bought the phone sim free and on Vodafone I get 600 minutes, 3000 texts and unlimited internet for £15 month.
