Old thickly-thicko here originally posted this in the Talk Photography forum where it got 109 views but no replies. Now if I had thought to post it up here in the travel forum I might have done a little better.

So here goes... I will be going to the Kyrenia area later in the year. Would like to try some landscapes - something I've never done as I tend to specialise in urban/candid/street type of stuff. Anyone been there? Can anyone recommend places to visit?

Hi Rob,

I used to work out in North Cyprus up until about 8 years ago so my info maybe a little out of date but hopefully some of it is still useful. There should be plenty of photo ops in Grine/Kyrenia, the old harbour and caste are pretty cool. Nicosia would be worth a visit but will be very hot depending when you go. There are some amazing beaches on the west coast around guzelyurt but your need a 4x4 and they are remote to pack accordingly. The karpas peninsula is a must, along with golden beach Famagusta is a lively university city, you can see the buffer zone from the plan beach hotel also but be careful taking pictures of any military bases, soldiers etc as it did not used to be allowed. Bellapais abbey (just outside kyrenia) is nice but very touristy. Definitely try to visit the turtle projects in Alagadi (about 14 km east from kyrenia), there is still night time nesting going on and the hatchling have just started to hatch. If you travel up to the karpas I would recommend staying up there as it's a long drive.
