Apologies for yet more EXIF questions, but is it possible to get the EXIF data from shots posted on forums like TP?

I know it's easy to read data from shots on Flickr by following the More Properties link.

There are several ways to view the Exif data

The two I use are a Firefox add-on called FxIF which will give you the standard info like Camera, focal length, shutter speed, aperture and the like.

Jeffrey's Exif Viewer

Which is a booklet you add to the Bookmarks/Favourites in your browser and will give you ALL the EXIF data in the photo.

Others will come in a post several more bits of software that will do the job too.

A free app called Panda IExif 2 will do it. You then just need to right click on the image to see the exif, thats providing its in the posted image.

Thanks for the help OP.

Amazing to see how few of the shots on here have little or no EXIF data attached to them.

which is not very helpful when learning as I like to know what length, exposure etc for future knowledge. :bang:

Have to agree with you there, I learned a lot from looking at peoples EXIF data on Flickr. But more and more posters seem to be choosing to withhold their data for of late.

I don't want to undermine the conspiracy theory, but I think you'll find the reason it's missing varies. Some may wish to remove it - for example, so that their equipment data is not visible, - empty camera bag.
In other cases, it may be removed in PP due to the output format or on uploading to a host.

Thanks for the help Zeugma.

Another reason why IEXIF is stripped is if you use the option 'Save for Web' in Adobe Photoshop; this is a quick tool that lowers the quality etc (space saving) but also has the effect of stripping all IEXIF information from it. While I think its a useful feature it bugs the hell out of sometimes and I've never worked out how to include the IEXIF information when using the handy option 'Save for Web & devices'.

I suspect most people use this option when placing forum photos hence the reason why the metadata is stripped in a lot of the photos. :)

If you want to include the EXIF data then just flatten the image, resize to the size your want, resharpen and save as jpg. Save for web is just that and strips the EXIF as part of the process reducing the size too.

Hi mate,

yeah I do that when I want to retain the IEXIF information; I would love a 'retain IEXIF' checkbox on the 'Save for Web and Devices' though as its a handy near one click option for saving to forums etc. :)

Thanks for the help guys.
