Nothing bigger than a hand phone on flights into US and UK

I guess we will need to check in 50 grand's worth of camera gear whenever we fly into the US or the UK form anywhere in the middle east. For me it means that that if I want to go back to the UK to see my family or go on a photo shoot then I will be doing it with a iPhone, no laptop and no camera gear........s***

Lol it says laptops only. Plus you're lenses ain't electronic... They are mostly glass. Maybe your camera body needs to be checked in.

Most digital lenses are electronic.

Nothing funny there............would you check in a 14000 pounds camera body :( :(

Just wondering, what body do you use? £14k is a fair old price. Surely you would have it insured as well just in case it 'went missing'.

It's for about 6 months (currently) and from a few specific countries and airports. Presumably based on intelligence concerning an expected attack. Personally, I'm happy to comply with any safety based edicts. Neil, how about just doubling up on the kit front so you don't need to lug it around the world!!!

Yes Leica S plus three lenses. Try claiming from your insurance company after telling them you put 25 grands worth of camera gear in the hold

Already talking with ffordes mate

Speak to a specialist broker and arrange sufficient cover for any gear that has to be checked in due to any regulations.

How about an extra stop rather than a direct flight from any dodgy (in the eyes of the authorities) country/airport?

Just live by the rules if you want to go there, if you don't then dont.

Simples really

Just read the latest report, Emirates are not on the list going into the UK so I guess I am okay "TFFT" .............I will still have to call thought to check before I fly

Problem now though is that I was looking forward to picking up a X1D at Ffordes in June as I will need a camera while in the UK...............s*** come on Maggie, ban Emirates as well please

Maggie? Is this Holy Time Warp Batman time?

Sugar! I'm off to Thailand in a couple of weeks via Abu Dhabi so it looks like my camera will have to go in the hold :( GF's tablet too :(

A necessary evil, and just check them in, no one is stopping you 'passing through' or from being a working professional
Some camera gear can't be checked in.

Anything with a VLok type battery has to travel in the cabin for safety reasons.

I've never tried this myself and don't know whether it actually works.

On one of the guitar forums someone said to put an empty starting pistol in with your precious cargo and check it in as firearms. It then bypasses normal baggage handling and is effectively couriered to and from the plane.

But u are forced to now?
Personally I am no longer effected as I use Emirates, and seeing as I have no desire to go to the US I don't see it as a problem either. What airlines are saying is leave your laptops at home............in other words we wont let you put them in the hold :)

Your forced to check them in. Don't understand what you are trying to say

What I'm saying is when I fly back to the UK I fly with Emirates Airlines...............Emirates are not on the UK hit list so Emirates will let you hand carry your laptop and cameras if your final destination is somewhere in the UK

One of which happens to be Dubai, the busiest airport hub for passenger traffic in the world!

no the just battery has to.

Camera can go in the luggage.

How many will this actually effect and be a problem for? Hardly any I suppose.

I travelled half way round the world for the last 4 weeks, 10 flights and no one had an issue with anything, other than some silly billy at Manchester with liquids. Was it a major drama? No.

Guess this ban comes from the USA who are neurotic about anything in the extreme. If you fart in a USA airport they think it is some kind of new nerve gas that will cripple anyone within 50 yards.

You do know that there have been explosions on planes which the authorities believe were caused by laptop bombs don't you?

I can't argue with measures to make people safer but an aircraft was I believe recently brought down by a bomb in the hold so I do wonder how much safer putting gadgets in the hold makes us.

Anyway, just reread the news and it looks like I was looking at the US list not the UK one so me and GF aren't affected at the moment.

Affects the UK as well? Depending where you're travelling to/from.

The thought of putting my gear in hold and it bring chucked around :(

If it makes flying safer then I'm all for it

And it only relates to incoming flights from Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia anyway.
