I was reading through a magazine I found in the bag with my fathers old SLR's, titled "How to earn £5000 a year with your camera". As you can image the title dates this to the 70's (published 1975).

Anyway... inside is an advert for a Novoflex follow focus !

I'm guessing this is not something you would be wise to carry around any town these days, unless you really wanted to meet an armed response unit

There were the same comments about them at the time - not something you'd want to wave about on St Patrick's day in the '70's.

I had a 400mm for my Nikon F. As I recall it was not a particularly good lens and I never really mastered using it either. In principle it was a great idea, squeezing the trigger/handgrip would pull focus (it rested at ∞) but the main problem in using it was that it did not have an automatic diaphragm so the viewfinder image could be pretty dark. Without TTL metering the exposure could be pretty random too!

Mine fell to bits (literally) after being carted to Glasonbury one year on the back of my Honda 250 and some of screws falling out leaving me with a DIY Novoflex puzzle and some small screws lost in the festival mud. Can't remember what happened to it after that. I probably chucked it. :cuckoo:
