Odd external drive issue

When I plug in external drives/pen drives into one pc it see's everything on it as a shortcut, yet when it's plugged into another pc it starts as shortcuts then turns into normal images etc.
Whats going on? I'm baffled.

It's showing every photo or folder as a short cut rather than a jpeg, see attached pic, theres only 3 jpegs and a video on this pen drive, no my pictures or music folder etc, and the drive was formatted before using, but it shows all my external drives the same, just shortcuts rather than the proper folders.
Even harddrives that have been used for ages (they all work fine on other computers) and it won't open any of the files images, any ideas of a fix?

looks like a trojan i fixed for someone at work the other day.

if you go to a command prompt and type:

attrib -h -s X:\*.* /s

(where X is the drive letter of the removable drive)

do your files appear? if so its a trojan.

If Neils suggestion doesn't solve it, what do the shortcuts actually point to?
 
Tried the cmd line but nothing changedthe files still show as shritcuts.

did you get an error, my syntax may not be 100% without it infront of me..

edit - i think the switches need to be caps.. and try it with /D also i.e.

ATTRIB -H -S X:\*.* /S /D

(where X:\ is the drive letter affected)

What do the shritcuts :D point to (right click->Properties->Target)
 
Are they all with e:\toukex.exe <something>? Sounds like Neils trojan horse virus. Googling toukex provides exactly one hit - this thread!
 
I have tried malware and norton, plus an online (housecall) scan but they find nothing, and I cant find any reference to turkex thing, any ideas how to remove it?
 
bin off norton and use avast, that found and removed the EXE first hit. or norton isnt set to scan system/hidden files.

youll still need to unhide your files using the attrib command to get them off then personally id do a full format of the drive and any other affected.
 
+1 for Avast... Used on all PCs here.
