2008 on TPF

As this year ends on TPF
I thought I'd write a rhyme
To summarise 08 for you
To while way the time

Thinking back on whats occurred
It's hard - so much has passed
But lets have a crack, no turning back
So this should be a blast

Some records reached on TPF
A million posts were posted
The user numbers they went up
Beyond 11k we coasted

At the very start of 2008
365s were done by most
But oh my god - look what we got!
Bod’s face with every post

With the comp no longer anonymous
The entries they did soar
Pitstop led the race throughout
Her pictures never poor

Some names are more familiar now
With way too many to mention
A name check for every bugger here
Was never my intention

But some shone out and made their mark
Like Edinburgh Gary
He made the news, give him his dues
He's no Tom **** or Harry

And Toothie and her Wall-E pics
Made everybody laugh
But mint's dead cow with ribs and all
Made everbody barf! :puke:

Monkeh made it round the world
From Mexico to Cologne
A stop off in Toronto too
He made it on his own (y)

As ever great debates have caused
A ruction near and far
Gay Weddings, Fireworks, Glamour too
And of course damn HDR :bang:

And macro shots have hit the heights
By Alby and Macro Junkie
And the outer space shots by James and John
Have really been quite funky!

And Sawman's reds and CT's birds
Thrilled all of us to bits
But I think the shots we loved the most
Were of Janice's perky squirrels!!! :naughty:

Betty's beauty hit the spot
A brave and thoughtful thread
Matt Sayle got published hip hooray
It didn't go to his head!

Meets of course took place this year
At Camden, the North and farther
The winds blew hard on Blackpool beach
(or was that just the lager)

New mods came on to join the rest
Joe T and Lemon James
No harm has come though its a great relief
We ain't gone down in flames!

And two mods waved goodbye this year
Moomike and CT
They have our thanks for work well done!
And they did it all for free!

And goodies sold by TPF
All great! There's nothing crap!
Warm fleeces and those calendars
And a lovely logoed strap!

And a recent scrap in thread and post
Caused uproar and a call
For a place to post "no-crit-please" shots
Hence "Fluffy Kittens and Cotton Wool"

And all the while its great to know
The forum's always there
For comment, laughs and good advice
There's none that can compare :)

So on that note I wish you well
08's one to remember
A good new year to TPF
And every single member!!! (y)

:D

Excellent stuff John! Hats off to you Sir (y)

Glad you all like it :)

Dee you are special! I have 6 copies of the Tamworth Herald that prove it :)

Again thanks :) - I'd love to have mentioned everyone who has contributed to this great forum but that would be looooooooooooooong! :)

Merry Xmases back! :)

John, you have a real talent, awesome stuff.

Cheers folks and I note that my forum title has changed from 'resident poet' to 'speaks in rhyming tongue' :) Not sure which is better :)

To finish off this little ditty
Our poem from Dark Star
A picture of a nice blue (t)itty
or a robin from afar!

I'm sure someone can oblige and supply the pic(s), LOL!!

Another poet has appeared
His name is garymercer
Thats not bad that rhyme of yours
I'm sure I've read much worser :)

If this thread goes on much longer
With rhymes both good and bad
We will end up missing Xmas
And that would make us sad :shake:

Our thanks go out to Dark Star
His odes do make us merry
Now excuse me for a minute
I need another sherry

And so to end this poem
With happy Christmas cheer
Good luck to all for this festive time
Now I'll get another beer.

Happy Christmas and a merry New Year to everyone on TP

Andy

Heehee, and I did appreciate it, honest I did! :)

Dee is crap at rhyming
This is all she has to say
Roll on 5.15pm tonight
And I bid you all good day :D

And so we move on to New Year
With cameras out en masse
Lenses, Filters all our gear
We might even use the flash

The birdies will be snapped in a tree
The jets shot wide and low
Post photos here on TP
We'll all put in a show

Now it's time to bid thee cheer
And raise a glass to all
To admins, mods and all here
It's time to have a ball

:clap::clap:

If I have to raise my glass anymore
In constant clinks of TP cheer and roar
I think I’ll be falling around on the floor

Could you all please now stop before it is too late
I like to raise my glass and shout goodwill to all
But, hic, I need time to resuscitate.

If TP Christmas goes on like this
With closing poems and did you get my gist
With the yearn to rhyme to great to resist.
I won’t have time to fulfil my shopping list.

So I’ll not raise my glass in celebration
Instead I’d simply like to say
In such a way as to convey
To much loved TP people, my appreciation…

Thanks for having me, happy Christamms to you all. (y)

As I said on the poetry thread John, excellent work . And some good additional verses too (y)

Merry Christmas Everyone

Bugger me what have I done
That first long ode was just for fun :)
And now the muse has found the forum
If it doesn't stop soon it just might bore 'em

So that's my lot my final rhyme
I've said my bit I've had my time
I'm off home now with xmas list
To eat and laugh and just get drunk ;)

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In the hope that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap;

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of midday to objects below—
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer.

With a little old driver so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name—
"Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer! Now, Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! On, Dunder and Blixen!
To the top of the porch, to the top of the wall!
Now, dash away! Dash away! Dash away! All!"

As dry leaves before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew
With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas, too.
And then in a twinkling I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each tiny hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a pedlar just opening his pack.
His eyes—how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry;
His droll little mouth was drawn up in a bow,
And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.
A wink of his eye, and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings—then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew, like the down of a thistle;
But I heard him exclaim ere he drove out of sight,
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight!"

Not bad for a 5 minute brainstorm eh?
