Hi guys, I'm off to Paris tomorrow for a week, and just thought I'd check if there are any 'must shoot' locations? I'm planning on doing a few long night exposures, but would love suggestions, the cliches, hidden gems, whatever really! Hopefully I'll come back with something I can get blown up and put on my wall! Thanks a lot!

I love paris, my advice would be to walk around, the paris metro is easy to use the lines are numbered line1. 2 etc, you can buy a weeks pass as well

paris - historic sites were overated.........notre dame was nice though

queued twice for 3 hours for that bloody tower with the missus only to get near the front and they close the top due to wind, then left - went to the top of montparnasse tower instead and got a view of the city + eiffel

overall paris holiday last year was rubbish, the place is a dump - smells of pish + smoke everywhere, had to use the metro system a lot which also smelt of pish, not to mention bosnian beggers and people sleeping down there. hardly the romantic city it makes out to be

it's probably nice in the summer, but it was freezing wind last easter and raining on and off so didn't enjoy much (probably worst holiday ever had) all the other's have been great

have fun, you will enjoy disney - couldn't do more than a few days though, living in a "dream world" will turn you into a zombie

montparnassé tower is worth it for the views http://www.tourmontparnasse56.com/uk/

I loved Paris when I went last year - first time in my 33 years!

Must visit places for me were:

Around the Eifel tower - got to get a few pics even if it is cliche :) We didn't bother joining the huge queue to go up though

Notre Dame - stunning. If possible bring a tripod for inside - it's dark, but some great photo opportunities.

Montmatre and Sacre Coeur - lovely

Paris Catacombes - We just missed getting into these, but will be on out agenda next time

Not entirely true, I came back with a fair amount of change last month :D

There's plenty of great locations, I stayed near the louvre and that place is nicely lit up inside the main square with the glass pyramids and fountains. Eiffel Tower aswell is always popular, and looks stunning lit up at night. There is a ferris wheel at Jardin d' Tuiliries (sp?) next to the loure, not to mantion the Seinne and its many bridges.

Must have been a bad time, I went last month and overall it was stunning.

Been to Paris loads of times. All the places suggested so far are worth going. To be honest there are photos to be taken all over the place. I took lots of shots but I'm afraid I haven't edited any of them yet otherwise I would put some up. I got a few ok ones on at some Metro stations. Go down later in the evening and get them without too many people.

All of the parks are also very nice if the weather is ok. Try the Jardin des Tuileries, very nice place.

Have a great time.

Montmartre is ok they have all the artists in the square near by can be interesting for shots, the church doesn't allow photography though, unlike Notre Dame and the Louvre (i think tripods aren't allowed though) but i got some decent shots hand held @ f2.8 on the wide side in there

2nd this one! London is a bargain compared!

Catacombs are interesting, bit unusual! Need fast glass an high iso for it, very dark an damp but worth it. You do come out in a random place though!

Definitely get the week pass on the metro, works out cheaper, always on time and not that crowded apart from rush hour.

Notre Dame is worth the visit. You can get some great shots around that area on a nice day down by the river.

St Germain des Pres is a nice place to go, some amazing bars and restaurants.

arc du triomphe is a great view on a nice day.

My advice (didnt go down well with the girlfriend mind)
walk as much as you can because you notice so much more and Paris really is a photogenic city! :)

Oh and watch out for gypsy women and pick pockets.

Enjoy your holiday!

Brilliant, thanks for the suggestions everyone! I've been through flickr quickly to get a bit of an idea, and jotted down your suggestions, so fingers crossed I'll get some acceptable shots!
