Official Talk Leica thread

I have just bought my first Leica and having only had it a few weeks I can see what all the fuss about them. I wanted something small for trip to New York later in the year and as a general walk about street/travel camera and although I love my Canon R3 I found it too heavy on my last holiday.

I like many opted for the Q2 which I got second hand from WEX and was very surprised that as a grade 9 (which may show signs of wear) there is not a mark on it so I am very happy.

What I like is that I am slowing down and being more thoughtful and have mainly been using manual focus which is a big departure as I am predominantly a sports shooter with my R3 so it takes some getting used to!

My experience so far has been positive. The only negative thing is even with small hands the camera can be a touch slippery to hold so I may need to invest in a thumb grip and definitely need an extra battery.

I have small hands but find the Q series comfortable without any additional support (if you shoot a lot one-handed I could understand the wish for additional support) - but I did spend 10+ years shooting Fuji X-100 variants which have virtually no grip, so maybe my muscle memory is suited to the naked Q!!

Battery life can be very varied, but generally I find that battery life is quite good, I usually manage to to change batteries in a day, but I do carry a spare battery, there are not cheap though!

Glad you are pleased with the Q2, please post some images and add to this thread!

I certain know the cost of batteries as the R3 official ones are £180 so the Q2 ones are a bargain at £155 :D I always air on the side of caution when out shooting all day and certain won't want to run out of power when in New York. I am unlikely to ever go back.

Thank you for your help/advice.

Andrew. Congratulations on your Q2. Fab camera. I’m also lucky enough to have a Q series camera. I have large hands and have tried the hand grip and thumb grip. I found I preferred to go commando. I never shoot one handed though. Like you I enjoy the fact that it’s perfect for a deliberate shooting style.
Definitely get a spare battery. Enjoy your Leica. Keep posting some shots.

Hi, in the Palace Garden in Würzburg/D ... (M9 - Elmarit 2,8/21 asph. f 2,8 ; crop) :

21mm is a typical FL for city trips for me. Faster and longer lenses would be better for a subject like this. But I take just one lens/day, so I must live with the output ...

What do you guys, Leica lovers, think about those rumors of EVF Leica?

The Leica Q range has an EVF, as has the Leica CL

do you mean a Leica M?- the M240 has an "optional" so called EVF, (although not built in), it's through an add on that you fix to the flash shoe, similar with the M10

Yes, I meant M model, which rumors say they may release new M with EVF, I mean one of variants will have EVF.
