Older Nikkor lens on D40

I have 17-70mm Sigma and a 55-200 VR for the D40

read Ken Rockwell and Nico van Dijk "here" till head spinning

as I want to have a Manual mode "play-around" with a 50mm - but not buying a new AF-D

can I fit a Nikkor 1.8 Series E to my D40..? which wont meter
can I fit a Nikkor 1.8 AI-S to my D40...? which wont meter

same two question on a future D200.. but understand both will meter

They will all "fit" as in your can physically mount them on the D40. But no metering.

D200 will meter fine.
