Yes

My son saw me working in the studio on a series of 9 different shots
where I used props and BG of the same colour then the subject.

He thought it was a good idea and after I told him the client did not want
to use black he went in the studio. Using the setup as it was, he placed
this 2.7 cm bottle on the table and, after a few test, came back with this.
"Can this be a homework for this week?" he asked!

Ohh..laa..laa!

This picture would appeal to the ladies! Love the black and peach. Reminds me of an old boudoir.

Daniel, I really like it. It's the kind of image that appeals to me and the composition is pleasing to my eye, too. Please give your son a good, hearty pat on the back 'cause I think he did great! Now, to PP this image, my personal taste would want to soften the background to accentuate the scent bottle and maybe fit in with the softness of the bottle's tones. I don't mean the bottle is "soft focused", because it's not. I mean the tones and texture of the bottle are silky and the light at the bottom very pleasing, indeed. So, I had a quick play with it and this would be close to how I would want the finished image to look. I trust your son won't mind me taking the liberty of playing with his lovely image and hope he'll find it interesting to see how different eyes and brains like to see things. None are right and wrong, just different. (BTW, I'm on an Apple Cinema screen and keep my brightness levels quite high. As a result, on some monitors with the brightness closer to medium, my images will appear too dark. If that's the case, adjust your screen brightness upwards to closer see what I'm seeing o_O)

Gimme a break… the boy is 17! ;-)

I was sorry that the client never considered the back take
for a parfum… "too funeral" he said!

Just did Duncan (he did not succeed to hide a smile!) and he dictated:

Daddy used unicolour and brighter setups, he had to use ƒ 5.6 ~ƒ8
for separation but, as my setup has two colours and is darker, I went
for ƒ11. I work on cinema display too!

Good stuff! So what did he think of my rendition? Looking at it again, it's maybe a tad dark and would prefer to lift the sprayer on the bottle a little. It's a moody shot, though, so ideas will change depending on mood! :jawdrop: Looks like your son is going to be a cracking photographer.

He understood why for sure but his 2 colour argument is unshakable.

Yes, and since the "funeral" idea came up, he though of a very gothic
style girl at school… (that doesn't always smell good!) sic.

If he does his weekly three homework exercises.

LOL! Can't argue with any of those!!

1. Unshakable.
2. Gothic girls are cool, too.
3. Homework is important and unfortunately, inevitable.
