Yes
I have it from a reliable source that Olympus are due to announce their new rangefinder-style EP-2 model within the next week or so. From what I gather in addition to a built-in viewfinder it will have an onboard flash and there will be an all-black version available.

This is what the E-P1 should have been, hopefully they have sorted out the AF issues. Don't think RRP have been announced but rumour is the price is going up by quite abit.

I think Panasonic are holding there AF technology very close to their corporate chest, and quite rightly so :)

Hopefully they have sorted the AF. I would guess this is something they decided that they couldn't do in firmware, since the firmware update to the E-P1 would have been the fix.

@Chillimonster: I'm not sure you are really in a position to state it doesn't have fast AF like the GF1, since no one has reviewed (or even tried) the camera yet. LOL
Time will tell and I'm not trying to start an argument here  ... [and you are probably right...!!!]

Just have taken more of a look - One of the nice features of the E-P2 is the external mic, something that the E-P1 or GF1 doesn't have. This is a useful feature, as the E-P1's Continious AF when shooting video is unusable due to the AF noise. Think the GF1 (from DPR) suffers the same issue (although it probably gets the focus right more often). It's obviously not a problem if you are not trying to replace a HD Camcorder with a single device, but if you are hoping for a video cam replacement....

But, still no flash! Arhhh,, When is the E-P3 or GF2 going to be released? LOL

Optical viewfinder - how hard can it be?

Yep, thats the showstopper for me on these right now.

With the (£100+!) optional one.. it looks like this:

That's not pretty - at least the Panasonic one is a bit more discrete. Shame they didn't build a 'finder into the camera (and still no flash), that's what the rep was leading everyone to believe...

The original PEN had a viewfinder I believe, so if Olympus are trying to invoke that mojo then it seems quite odd the viewfinder wasn't built-in.

I imagine by V4 it'll be sorted.

Given the range in focal length of the lenses you can use, I'd say almost impossibe, sadly. Contax had a great viewfinder on the G series rangfinders that covers 24 to 90mm and even correct parralax. I would be very happy with a finder that covered the middle ground and reverted to just a screen for the extremes.

I guess that's a good place to look for your upgrade ££'s late next year. ;)

I think it's more like they're trying to play catch-up to Panasonic. At least Olympus are marketing an all black version now (although now I see it I don't think it looks righ ), the "stainless steel" silver one in the display case in my local Jessops is covered in hairline scratches just from being shown to people, heaven knows what one would be like after a few weeks of use.

:D

Bit of a love-in for that camera on here now!

It's all us early adopters

Go and try one though, I was lucky I bought mine without a chance to handle one first (no dealers in Glasgow), but the ergonomics are much better than the EP-1, which I had been able to try.

I wish they can announce some more lens as well. It is most struggling thing while I was considering about buying a M43 system.
