currently with my d7000 i have a 35mm f1.8 ( hardly ever used unless its low light ), a 17-50VC f2.8 ( which is almost always used ), and a 70-300VR.
I'm trying to weigh up the costs of an "equivalent" range but am a little lost with the lenses, what fits what etc. Can anyone steer me in the right direction please ?
35mm 1.8 = Olympus 25mm 1.8 (£300)
17-50 2.8 = Panny 12 - 35 2.8 or Oly 12 - 40 2.8 (£550-700)
70-300 VR = Panny 45 - 200 F4-5.6 (£150)
It wouldn't offer more length, it would be less...

are the kit lenses ( 14-42 and 40-150 ) no good ?

Actually taking the 1.6 crop factor of the Canon into account the nearest lens to the is the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM at £699 .
As someone who has owned Canon and Pentax digital SLR's I'd say they are better than the oppositions kit lenses.
I could post a few examples taken with both those lenses but I'd think everyone is getting fed up of me posting pics here.
ohhh, you know thats not true Paul I'd like to see
As someone who has owned Canon, Nikon, Sony and pretty much every camera besides a Pentax, I will disagree, and so will DXO. Like I said, very similar.

Twist you are entitled to disagree.
I have never shot Nikon just Canon and Pentax and owned the kit lenses at sometime so I cannot comment Nikon kit lenses but there is not a lot in it off those marks and I only know and go off how lenses perform in the real world and not a test bench, but that's me.
best place for 2nd hand stuff is the bay ? or elsewhere ?
Ahh just noticed I misread and cocked up on that one, no brand name just D7000 mentioned...sorry one of those senility moments made me think Canon.Eh? He's looking to switch from Nikon to M43, why would he be looking to buy a Canon DSLR lens? Do you know of any other F2.8 fast standard zooms for M43?
