On camera/off camera/portable advice please

I now only have 1 working speedlight (Yongnuo) as my other one has failed, so have very little investment in this area, so can be a clean slate (ish) ...

I have some Lencarta studio heads (superfast 300s x 2) plus a few modifiers for that. In an ideal world it would be good if I could use the same triggering/control system with both the studio heads and any speedlights I get as I do use the speedlight(s) when I'm using the studio heads.

I don't think I am looking to over power the sun so power wise equivalent to the SB910 ish would be more than adequate I think.

Main use will be OCF, but it would be a nice to have if one was also iTTl too. Their usage will be infrequent and will be looking at getting one or two initially but may add to it later. They don't have to be the same either, as long as they work together I'll be happy.

I shoot Nikon if that helps. I haven't given budget too much thought either, the Nikon speedlights seem inordinately expensive so am looking at alternatives.

I'm a complete numpty where speedlight/portable terminology is concerned so please keep things simple! Model names/numbers will be of great help here :)

TIA.

In your situation I would definitely look at the Godox system. You don't mention which trigger you are using with your Lencartas if it is already 2.4Ghz then everything will be able to play together, simple to upgrade if they are not 2.4Ghz. You should be able to purchase a couple of speed lights and a Pro trigger for far less than an SB910...

Told you I was a numpty ;)

It is the wavesync 2.4ghz - this one https://www.lencarta.com/all-produc...e-control-ft-16-transmitter-receiver-set-2.4g the receivers plug into the heads ad the transmitter on the hot shoe.

Godox V860II is what you need.

Same 2.4 GHz trigger as the Lencartas and built into the gun.

This gun doesn't run from AAs but a Li-ion battery pack.

And Lencarta sell 'em too.

I'm going to get one in Olympus configuration.

They will al play along (I believe the Lencarta units are/were made by Godox), 2.4Ghz receivers and transmitters are built into the Godox speed lights, if you add the Pro transmitter you will have full control over the speed lights (HSS, iTTL etc) plus you will be able to control the power and fire your studio units, you could even add a speed light as a third source.

(A pair of TT685's and a Pro transmitter will set you back around £250)

Plus you have the whole Godox ecosystem available if you wish to expand....

Godox is the easy answer. Lots of options and different ways to play it within their extensive range. But if it's just speedlights you're after, then as above (y)

I'm thinking of getting the V860ii O to work as an on/off camera flash plus it will double up as a usable studio strobe to light the background etc with its built in wireless trigger.

This may be a daft question but I'll ask it anyway - will the built in 2.4ghz receiver in the V860II work with the lencarta wavesync transmitter or will I need to replace that?

You’ll need a new 2.4Ghz transmitter to make the most of the TTL speedlights, whether an x pro or an x1, but without knowing which wavesync you have it’s impossible to say what you really need.

If you only use manual i.e. in a studio then keep what you've got.

If you need TTL you'll need the new correct transmitter for your Camera make.

I'd get the AD200 and ditch the studio lights for small usage - its fully OCF though as it has no foot

Its what I use most of the time now as it has both a bulb head and a 'speedlight' focusing one, pretty powerful too though sometimes too powerful lol - so I switch back to the Yongnuos then :D

The AD200 as brilliant as it is won’t replace the utterly unique superfasts that @PaulButler has Dave, theyre a bit specialist, but when you need em, there’s nothing better.

I’ve got no use for them but I still lust after them.

I thought it was only me that wanted Superfasts for no apparent reason

You're photographing the wrong subjects then :)

.. I have a habit of buying second hand SF300s when they appear .. but I'm tempted by the SF400 / Godox QT400II / Pixapro Storm variant ..
