From a batch of negatives acquired when I lived in the UK

The way in which some lived many moons ago....Thatched roof on the building ...are there any buildings like that left anywhere in the UK now?

The words on the panal may be an indication as to where or whom the cart belonged?? (J.C Henery ...in Norton????)

Plenty of thatched roof properties in the UK, my next door neighbour for starters.

I do remember seeing a "thatcher" hard at work when I was much younger somewhere down the south of England but even then ( 30 years ago) I recall my family talking about how it was becoming a dying trade due to more modern building trends....Nice to know there are still some thatched roofs still knocking about!

Thatched roofs are pretty expensive to maintain but they're beautiful.
My dad lives in Edenbridge in Kent & there are cottages with thatched roofs there.

It is very rare for a thatched building to be demolished or to have the thatch removed, very rare indeed. Anyone trying it is going to have a mountain climb of bureaucracy to get permission to do so which is almost certainly going to get refused.
