Orange flashing light on V300 scanner

I have a used V300 Photo scanner and while using my Mac (Catalina), if I choose "scan mode: transparency negative" and then overview, it starts to scan but then an orange light starts blinking and I get an error saying "overview scan timed out".

Has anyone had this problem?

Is there a white screen in the lid to remove for transparency scanning, as in the V500?

I’ve had something similar with an Epson 4490, I use a PC.

My problem was down to a dirty glass.

So the problem was that my Mac isn't giving any meaningful errors so I tested it on a Windows PC with the Epson scan software and it was telling me the lid wasn't closed as I had a slide holder in there from my DSLR scanning kit and it must have been keeping the lid open a bit too much. Now it's working, thanks.
