"Panasonic G series" Owners Thread

Here is one from my trip to Iceland earlier this year. GH4 with Olympus 9-18 @ 9mm, f4, ISO1600, 30 second shutter. There has been some noise reduction in post but I'm happy with the end result.

I've done a lot of northern light photo in the past as I can nearly see them from my doorstep a few times a year. Noise level seems pretty good for a 30 second exposure. Using f4 and a m4/3 camera I pretty impressed with this result. If you had the chance to shot f2 you would be 2 stop faster you could lower exposure to 7.5 seconds and you would have more definition in these vertical spikes.

I would say not too shaby for iso 4000, 1/400s at 400mm (800mm equ.)
GX9 + 100-400

Not the most exiting bird about but the first one i took with this camera/lens. The light was nearly gone hence the iso 4000!
Bird was very obliging and leave me 5 minutes to took the shot, as I said in my previous post the lens just wanted to focus on the background it didn't want to focus on the bird at all!

Have you tried the pinpoint focus option, it gives a small cross in the centre of the focus box.

Anyone using the PL 10-25 f1.7 ?

It’s popped up on my Radar..

Anyone using the PL 10-25 f1.7 ?
It looks interesting but I can't see me spending that much when I use my Oly 9-18mm about once a month (if that). Mind you: I wouldn't be without my PL 100-400.

Seen the reviews of the 10-25 but at £1700+ I can't imagine ever having any interrest in that!
I've seen there is a Laowa 9mm f2.8 which has very good review and very small. Still too expensive for me but at the 500£ mark seem a good UWA fast lens.

I've seen some reviews that suggested getting a Viltrox EF-M2 focal reducer adapter and a Sigma 18-35 1.8 is better than buying the 10-25, and a lot cheaper too. You can get both for less than 600 and you get something like an 11-24 f/1.3

Never really heard about this.
So if i get one of these vitrox EF-M2 and I screw on a samyang 12mm f2 NCS what do I get?
Sound like it good be a really cheap superfast wide angle?

Any reason why not to use in astrophotography?

Grab shot from a passing bus: GX7 / Sigma 60mm Art...

With the adapter attached your mount is now EF, so only an EF mount Samyang 12mm would work this way and I don't think there is one? Just a note also: on the focal reducing version of the Viltrox you cannot mount EF-S Canon lenses, you can mount third party APSC lenses like Sigma.

So maybe the samyang 14mm 2.8 would work?

Hot water bottle. GX80 and 45-150mm at f5.6, 1/20 and ISO 6,400.

It just caught my eye :D

Just some from today. GX9 and Oly 17mm f1.8.

f2.5. The rest are f4.

There's lens flare in the form of a line in this one (there was a blue flare too which I took out) which I fixed for the final version. I've not seen this before but it appeared like this in three shots I took from that position.

I was just looking at my order history and I noticed that I bought my first MFT camera, a GF1, on 9th November 2009 so that's 10 years and counting with the system :D

Can anyone beat that?

Can't beat that.
I bought my first MFT camera in 2011.
A Panasonic G3.

I once looked at a G3 but I decided it wasn't a big enough jump forward over what I had so I passed on that one, I couldn't live with the GF1 as I didn't like back screen shooting so I changed to a G1. I was very happy with the G1 and I think it was just about the best handling camera I've ever had and the files at maybe ISO 100-400 are just lovely and so natural looking IMO.

My journey has been...
GF1.
G1.
GX7 and I later added a G7. I sold those as I couldn't live with the SS issue as lenses I wanted to use were affected.
GX80 and I added a GX9. I still have those.

Lens wise...
20mm f1.7.
14mm f2.5.
14-42mm f3.5-5.6, the early one.
45-200mm.
All those were sold on and I now have...
Oly 17, 25 and 45mm f1.8, 9-18mm too.
14-42mm f3.5-5.6, the tiny one.
45-150mm.
12-35mm f2.8.

I also sometimes use a film era Sigma 50mm f2.8 macro in Minolta mount.

I keep thinking of adding a long lens for moon, squirrel and bird shots.

I've only had 2 MFT cameras.
I now use a G80.
When I had the G3 the lenses I used were 14-42, 45-175 and 100-300.
With the G80 I use 25mm 1.7, 12-60 kit lens, 35-100 2.8 and the 100-400mm.
I've had the sigma 60mm 2.8 art and Olympus 45mm 1.8 which I've sold on due to lack of use.

Nope, not even for ML overall. My first ML camera was only a few years back, the Fuji X-T1. I shot nothing but Dslr and bridge cameras previous. I did however possibly shoot Sony long before many on here, my first dslr was the A200 and I mostly used an old Minolta 50mm 1.7 :D The was my first ever taste of IBIS/Steady shot too. Sadly that broke down after a few months [bought used] but I did get a taster back then on the advantages of it.

I remember the Panasonic and Olympus getting hyped back then, Panasonic were advertising pretty heavily on tv at the time and my interest was peaked. But I didn't see any advantages to that system over dslr only size. I thought they were more aimed at tourists , because they looked like compact cameras. I was very much in the 'bigger is better' camp when I started looking beyond bridge cameras I'd used for many years.

Bigger isn't better. I'm in Venice right now, and the little 7-14 has been asked about by several jealous FF DSLR owners! It weighs less than my phone... and I've hardly put the 12-60 on the camera. Even my other half has remarked what an amazing lens it is.
