Please can someone help. I have to do some photos for tonight to fit specific frames.

I'm using A4 paper, but want to print an 8" x 6" image so I can cut to fit (I have another couple of different sizes too)

I've done all the visual adjustments on my laptop and am now trying to print on another computer using the printer wizard. I've tried changing the custom paper size but it insists on printing full page or lopping half of the image off.

Should I resize them in photoshop first?

I am not entirely sure however when I want to do that I size the image to the required size (i.e 8x6) then make a FILE-NEW-pick A4 and drop the image onto it then save it as a jpeg. That might work?
 
Right, got the size thing sorted. I've plugged the printer into the laptop and printing direct from photoshop.

Now the prints are too dark. Sould I adjust the brightness on the image in photoshop or on the printer setup. If it looks okay on the screen, but prints too dark, is it just trial and error to get the right level.

Head hurts.

Trouble is, I'm printing a selection of portraits and half of the people are wearing black, half of them white. I don't want to lighten the print too much or the white burns out, but when they are dark, you can see the faint printer lines on the black clothes.
 
Damn was hoping you would say canon :)
I have never owned an epson, I know in the canon driver you change it to linear mode printing and reduce colour intensity around -8 and problem sorted.
You could just play with the image or driver settings to lighten it up, I would personally run an a4 through several different times on different parts of the page with a smaller image and at different printer settings keep a note of what settings each image used and pick the best one and you then wont need to alter your images just your printer driver for future prints.
Sounds a bit involved but once done it saves loads of time.

When you print go to the properties option . Select advanced,in the "Main Tab. Top left hand corner is a section marked Colour management. You could try dropping the Gamma down from what it is set too at the moment. You could also try dropping the contrast in the contrast slider. You've also got Light/Dark controls which may help with the prints being too dark.. If you are going that route get the density correct before you change to mant things
