Possibly your motherboard battery has died? If so, they cheap and easy to replace.
Easy to check, just completely power off. Pc won't hold date, time data.
Other than that can't think why your pc would suddenly mess your clock up![]()
Power off ...............reboot = all ok....
Did you just tell the pc to shut down, or did you disconnect from wall socket.
I'd advise disconnecting from wall socket, for at least 30 seconds, then turning on pc and seeing if your clock has reset.

my laptop has just reset itself to 25/9/05 and it is playing havoc with the internet and updates......8-(
then told me the battery trickles all the time when the PC is 'plugged-in'
even if the power switch is 'off'

Yes it would cost to upgrade to Windows 7, so you'll have to consider that.
Btw, increasing your system memory is one of the best upgrades you can do, but it's also one of the easiest, even you could do it![]()
, driver support was pretty much non-existent since the last service pack its actually been pretty good, it lowered memory usage too.

If you've got the 32 bit version of Vista then don't bother upgrading your memory to 8GB unless you're planning a 64 bit upgrade. 32 bit versions have limited addressing and will only use 3.5-4GB of RAM.

You'd be better spending your £100 on a good graphics card and installing it yourself. Very easy install and we're always here to help you should you get stuck.
I 'knew' I shouldn't have asked a PC question here.....too many experts [meant nicely...

system says
AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 5400+ 2.81 Ghz

Well said that man
Also, unless you doing something like video processing, 4gb should be plenty.

4GB is 2^32 bytes*. Given a 32-bit operating system the most memory that can be addressed using 32 bit processor registers is going to be 2^32 bytes, i.e. 4GB.
Adding any more while keeping the 32-bit version of Windows is not going to do anything. You need a 64-bit OS to use the extra RAM..
