Morning all

I have just purchased Photoshop Elements 9, but my PC runs really slowly.

The PC is pretty new

Athlon x II 215
4gb ram (motherboard max)
9500GT Graphics card (upgraded from onboard)

The motherboard has AM3 socket

I am loath to get a whole new PC if upgrading one of these would cure my problem as its not even a year old, but originally I intended to use it more for storage than editing

Any thoughts

Cheers

Stephen

open up task manager (right click the task bar) and look at the performance graphs. is anything running high?

if so go into processes and sort by amounts, what is using the most CPU and/or memory?

Make sure all you have all the latest updates for the OS.

Find out what is being loaded at Startup. There could be applications that are loaded into the memory when the PC boots up that you do not need. As you have 4Gig of RAM, it is unlikely that too many Startup items would cause a problem, but its worth looking at.

If Neil's suggestions shows processes using large amount of resources, Google them to see if (a) you need them, (b) OK but not needed or (c) are nasties.

Update all your security software and run them all and get rid of anything dodgy.

Is the hard drive badly fragmented or very full (ie more than about 90% full)?

Cheers, have done all the above and finally sorted out

Use quad core laptop instead :D:D

Yes, the Athlon isn't the worlds most powerful processor... One persons running slowly is someone elses quick...
