Yes
any of you use these? im seriously considering one of these, not sure if i should go with the XDA type thing that o2 and T-Mobile now do or get a dedicated unit like a Palm or iPAQ:ponders:

Personally use a Sony Clie (Palm based) - although its on it last legs, and seriously needs replacing (it is now over 3 years old).
I wouldnt recommend any Palm based PDAs - they aint as good as they once were.
Dell and HP iPaqs would be your best option - a combined phone would depend on your own preference, personally I would prefer a separate phone, but others like the two combined.

I use a Very old Ipaq. All I do with it is diary and Tom Tom.

What are you going to use it for? that will determine what you should go for :)

As AquilaEagle says - it is very dependent on what you intend using it for.

Combined with a phone I use a Sony Ericsson P900 and wouldn't be without it ... until I upgrade.

Also use an XDA type thingy for SatNav and synch-ing with laptop - much better resolution/screen size etc.,

Just depends on you ...

i would use it for:
making notes for stuff at work, reminders for myslef, data storage and moving files between home and work machine, surfing, listening to mp3 and watching porn erm music videos, viewing photos on occasion, bit of emailing, that kind of stuff.

Saw a palm z22 for sub £100 but not sure if its anygood

LOL - Thats what I was thinking :)

They could be right ... I am afraid not much else will do all you want in one package Matty !

I must admit I'm a gadget freak...tbh my iPaq has been unused for 2 years - my laptop does everything that the iPaq did and then plenty more besides.

i got a laptop, i was thinking of something a bit more mobile, lol, i want to listen to mp3s sometimes too, that sort of thing!

lol thanks

doesnt really though

I have used Palm machines in various guises since the first 500k palmpilots came out. I now have a Palm T5 (if I was buying now I'd get the Tx) the T5 has all the usual pda apps like diary, memos, calulators, contacts, notes.... It also has bluetooth, adobe pdf reader, documents to go which is basically M$ office for pda, various games, an e'book reader, a video player, mp3 player and I've added sat nav that works with a seperate gps receiver via bluetooth as well as a few personal/work related apps. The huge advantage this model has over most others is 'non volatile flash memory' so if the battery drains completely you don't lose any of your info.

I paid a little under £200 for my T5 the Tx which is newer costs under £180 and has the added advantage of WiFi as well as bluetooth, makes web browsing a lot easier from it.

There you go Matty ...

:D :D :D

Pinched it from an entry to the current "Broken" assignment ... sorry !

But seriously ... Palm do good stuff and, as Steep suggests they may do most of what you want but at a little more than the less than £100 you started at !;)

Hope you source your ideal boys toy !:smilenod:

i was looking at £250 ipaqs, then the wife caught me looking....

I use an XDA II, find it very handy watch films, listen to music with it, I would say altho u can surth the web, it's slow. (waiting for one to come out that supports 3g)

If you want to take it everywhere with you, you may as well go for one of the xda style ones and use it as a phone as well........if you only want it on ocassion or dont want it to be a phone get a ipaq......or look at one of these http://www.mio-tech.be/products/gps/168/default.asp?From=168MoreInfo
They go for around £300 and have sat nav built in.

I use my ipaq a fair bit as you know, but it's main feature is satnav and scamera alerts.

must easier to stick on the dash than a laptop :D

I have a HP Ipaq hx4700, its great but all it really gets used for is tomtom and as a diary... oh and the occasional game of solitaire :)

Thinking back I didnt need such a beast of a PDA, I should have bought a lesser model - as long as it runs tomtom 5 then it would have been fine for my use.

I only use my Ipac for TomTom too...I find it annoying that it needs redoing if the battery runs down too.....gggrrrrr....I love TomTom though ;)

so i would be best off looking for something with GPS built in so i can run sat nav with it too, even though i know where im going, and if i dont, i use routefinder?

Don't think so Matty - all the good PDA's do have the facility to add GPS - even if a load of them may come with it pre-loaded by company's selling SatNav (Tom Tom being one such - who also do the software separately for those who want to add it later when they do start getting lost near home) !

Did you check out the P200 ? They also do a P400 but at a price of course !

it is most impressive, but the making notes bit is quite important, im a forgetful git so i need to make notes, the m$ software on ipaqs etc makes that easy(i know, take a notepad...)

I just recently bought an Ipaq 4700 after my last one hit the concrete and didn't bounce too well. I use Tomtom via a GPS receiver in the CF slot, so I can use it in the car, on foot or on the bike. Unlike previous Ipaq's this one has ample volume from the built in speaker for Tomtom voice prompts without needing auxilliary amplification ....even in the car.

It does the handwriting recognition thing, has loads of RAM and with the size of the CF cards you can get these days you can load a lot of MP3s.

one solution to be honest

Blackberry 7100 x .........

MyPix

Not trying to sound harsh, but my personal experience of blackberry's is that they are an inferior pda to any pocket pc and only really bought by company execs who don't have a clue about functionality of these sorts of device's and just want one to go "ooh look at me I have a blackberry!" to there mates.

Just my two cents.

I got a Dell Axim x51v for xmas, mainly for TomTom but I'm finding it to be very cool. With Wifi I can easily stream pics and movies stored on my PC straight to the PDA. No re-encoding or resizing of the movies, they just play. It supports CF cards so I put my old 256mb card in and was able to easily boost the memory. I have a photo viewer that an read RAW files, the small jpeg stored in RAW files that is. I also have my best photos of 2005 stored on it. Its a lot smaller and easier to carry than a P2000, with a very good screen so its great for showing people on the street.

Had various Dell and IPAQ PDA's in the past but always found them too big to carry all the time. Got one of these for christmas and so far pretty impressed. Includes phone, WiFi and keyboard in a relatively small package.

Also available from Orange and unbranded (HTC Wizard IIRC).

thanks for all the comments chaps and chapesses, i am on t mobile and that last link can be had by me as an upgrade/cash deal, but not quite yet...
