pearl and glossy finish from ilford lab

Um what's the difference? Anyone have a preference?

Pearl is basically semi matte, gloss is glossy. Glossy generally has better max black, but I prefer the pearl finish. It's also better behind glass ithink.

perfect, cheers ill go for pearl id read a few things about pearl being different from semi matte and was a bit confuddled

I like ilford pearl paper for the wet printing I do.

When I was at college everyone used gloss until I took some pearl paper in and showed them the difference.

Prints on Pearl are much better if being framed and put behind glass. Low key images on gloss just turn into a mirror

My sentiments exactly, though for my 6x4's that go into an album I prefer gloss. Another advantage of the pearl paper is that it isn't so susceptible to getting fingerprints on it.
