Hi I am reaching the big 50 in April and the wife is taking me away and we have both wanted to visit Wales for awhile she is half welsh. Just wondered if Pembrokeshire is the best place to visit and where to stay. Looking for photos of waterfalls and stunning coastline. Any pointers to make my big 50th special. Thanks

Thanks Elliot looks like to choose between the coastline and waterfalls. A no-brainer coastline everytime.

I have lived in Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire all my life ( very close to the coast line )

There is a massive coastal path that all looks lovely to me on a sunny day.

But I would go between Castle 16 and 21 on this map.

Its nice down that way but never stayed there overnight because I am so close to it.

If you can get to Caldy island walk out to the lighthouse and turn right, the views walking back around that way were stunning last time I did it (some years ago)
Saundersfoot has a nice harbour and a nice but expensive chip shop (if it's still there), St Govans as dcash says well worth a look.
Waterfalls head for Glyn-neath, loads of crackers there.

The most photogenic sections of the Pembrokeshire coast are actually (mostly) in the north. Most sections between castle 15 (Nr St Davids) and the Ceredigion border (13) are spectacular. There are exceptions - The Castlemartin peninsula (south of Pembroke) is stunning but access is limited due to the military range there. (The locations listed by dcash are +/- included in that). The Marloes peninsula is also great; that's the section of the mainland opposite Skomer island.

Areas to concentrate on in the north - St Davids peninsula & Strumble head. There IS a very lovely little waterfall btwn fishguard and newport which you could find using an OS map......:naughty:

It's worth mentioning that the none of the section of coast between castles 16 and 21 is actually in Pembs.....!

We have a house in Pembroke - these are all good suggestions for south of Pembroke. Don't ignore Pembroke Castle or the high street, some good shops and places to eat.

At the start of Pembrokeshire, Amroth has a huge beach and if you walk up the path behind the toilets you get a great shot from the headland. When the tidesout you can walk from Amroth to Wisemans bridge then take the miners tunnel to walk through to Saundersfoot.
Tenby's worth a visit for the painted houses and good beaches, nice walled twon with shops, but can get very busy in holidays.
Manorbier beach and Castle and Skrinkle Haven/church doors cove is worth a look.

As said - Carew castle has a short loop you can walk around the tidal pond and get some good shots of the castle.

South of Pembroke, I'd say walk through the Bosherston Lily Ponds to Broad Haven south, should you feel like it you can also walk over the headland to Barafundle bay. If you follow the coatline you get some stunning coastal features, or park at Stackpole Quay and walk that way.
Whilst that was St Govens Chapel is a must.

Green bridge, you can only get there through Castle Martin by driving if the tank range is shut, but it's worth a walk along there to Broad Haven south

I'd also add Freshwater West, and Angle bay up towards the Old Point House. You can sit outside the pub watching the small boats moored in the bay, ignoring the refinery to your left.

Further around the coast you've Dale which is stunning, there's a nature reserve there as well just before you come into the bay and further on the Lighthouse at St Annes head has some dramatic views.

Then moving up, you've Newgale, Solva harbour, Abereiddy and the Blue Lagoon, Portgain, Abercastle and Strumble Head.
Finishing at the top of pembrokeshire you've St Dogmaels, Aberteifi and Cilgerran Castle.

Also have a look at local photographers, such as Drew Buckley

Also don't know if he's still a member on here but Andy Davies runs photo workshops in the area, including trips to Skomer

And while you're there, you can buy some of my postcards

https://www.wildwalespostcards.co.uk/pembrokeshire

And have a look for my book "Pembrokeshire - Journeys and Stories"

http://www.wild-wales.com/content/blogcategory/8/43/

Both might give you some ideas before you go too.

I think you're ignoring cenarth. We say there watching Salmon travel up

There's also the country park and Dam near HaverfordWest thats sometimes has water over the dam, but is a decent 6.5 mile walk around

Yes, but I live just down the road from Cenarth and I'm yet to get a decent image from there. It's a bit meh.

There is also a small waterfall near Boncath, but compositions are very limited.

But that is about all for pembrokeshire...
I guess on the way (depending on where coming from) is aberdulais near swansea, and Henrhyd, both national trust.

I'd stick to every other landscape/coastal opportunity that pembrokeshire presents :D

And waterfall country. Around 10 great falls there, but you need more than a quick stop on the way to explore those.

You're right it'll take more than a quick visit, but you could do a day on the way there and a day on the way back provided you had a very early start. It wouldn't add much if anything to the mileage and having had a look on the way in you can always change plans for the return to suit yourselves.

Thanks all for your invaluable help just not sure where we are staying yet still surfing possible locations. Looks like I'm going to have a good week whatever
