Pen drive issues?

Yes
I have a 4gb pendrive (marked super talent) it's worked fine untill yesterday, I needed to transfer some images from one computer to another (not networked) Drag and drop pics onto empty drive, and all of a sudden a drive full warning, Oh bummer I thought, too many pics for the drive, but when I checked there was only 3gb of images total and only about 2/3 have gone across. I delete everything off drive and check, it's showing as 1.82 gb space left and 1.94 used, nothing on drive that I can see.
Could there be hidden system files on it or something? the drive is only used for transfering stuff from pc to pc, and I haven't lost anything (the pics I deleted off the drive were just copies to transfer)
Do these pen drives need regular formatting or anything, or is there a special way to wipe them clean??
Thanks Wayne

Sounds like the drives' index is screwed have you tried formatting it?

Just tried and it's fixed it, back to 3.89 gb (or something like that) so what was wrong, does the index tell it how much space there is or something?
Many thanks mate. Wayne

Backup whatever you need to keep and format it.

They need a format every once in a while,,, Does em good

Hope this helps.

i know this doesnt solve your problem. Would it be an idea to burn to dvd and transfer that way? The dvd may burn quicker, is relatively cheap, and also acts as a backup?

The images were on a dvd to start with, I was editing another togs pics (he has the originals as well) the dvd, a TDK just wont read in one computer, I only ever have a problem with this one togs disks, I have to use a different pc to read the disks and then use the pendrive to transfer the pics over, sometimes his disks work other times they wont, the only obvious difference is when the pics are in a folder they work, when theres just loose images on the disk they don't work.
I handle lots of disks of work from several different togs, it's only the one guys give trouble.

Also, I may be on my own here, but most blank dvd discs I wouldn't trust with a backup for anything more than a couple of months. I've had that many cheapies die on me over time (< year), though the problem was a lot worse in australia than it is here the UK!
