I post this in reply to the other thread started by Dafydd, http://http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=309439 regarding lack of response to images in the People and Portrait section.
It seems to me (and many others in the forum) that responses are received in the main only from newer members and those seeking to achieve the magic 100 posts.
I posted an image yesterday that has received five comments, and I notice several other threads started by members outside the "elite few" have received only about 6 or 7 replies at most, yet if you are in that elite group, replies are in the twenties and thirties. Whether the image is any good or not, we all like to have some comments, and help to improve our work is even better.
I post images infrequently on this forum for this very reason, and I am sure many other members feel as I do.
I notice that more effort (in excess of 120 posts) has been made (and commented on by Yv) to post in that thread that discusses the lack of comments; I notice also that many of those posters are those on whose images I regularly comment, but most offer little or nothing in return in the way of critique.
What prompted me to post this - sad that I didn't even qualify for a comment from D*l*x who is massaging his post count with a copied and pasted "Excellent, Dave"
Come on Guys, 5 pages of arguments and discussion about a subject that you are all as guilty of as anyone else! We all learn from the forum, but it sometimes seems to be a one way street as far as comments on images is concerned.
