Persian Cat (some B&W)

Some of our cat, Dennis. Taken with my new(ish), relatively unused 50mm 1.4. Any thoughts on how to improve them and/or make the most of this lens would be gratefullly appreciated as I'd like to get more use from this lens. Are they as sharp as I should expect?

I think these are about OK for this lens. When I use mine at f/1.4 it's a very dreamy like feel in the areas not used for focus. I think open eyes are the thing that would improve this, as the eyelids, nose and mouth have very little in terms of definition.
