3gb ram
3ghz 64x2 processor
1gb graphics card

will this make a big difference?

going to be editing 5DII images RAW

what are your specs?

Just wondering why not go the Windows 64bit route and bung in 4Gb?
My Specs:
Ubuntu 10.04 64bit
8Gb RAM
2.3Ghz 64x2 AMD
1Gb nvidia GT9800
I've found that even some heavy processing on a large TIFF (180Mb) I don't use much more than 5GB but my CPU is maxxing and the process isn't as fast as I'd have thought. I'm trying to get to the bottom of this via Ubuntu Forums.

I've posted in your other thread, but I'd start from scratch. Just for completeness tho:

Core 2 Duo E8400, 8G Ram, Win7 64, 2x1Tb drives RAID0 system disk, 1Tb drive for scratch, passive 9500GT/1G graphics.

If I was starting from scratch now, I'd go i7 with triple channel memory (i.e. 1366 based board), 12G memory, couple of SSDs (one system, one scratch) and another passive Nvidia card. But that would be a shedload of money (probably over £1000)

Intel Core2 Quad Q9550, 8Gb DDR2-800, 60Gb Vertex SSD, XFX Ati 4650 1Gb, 2x Dell 2209wa, Synology DS1010+ NAS w/ 3x Samsung HD203WI 2TB in RAID5, Windows 7 64bit Ult.

Lightroom DB is on the SSD currently (looking to move off to eSATA connected drive as its a touch too big now) and RAW files on the NAS. works well.

if youre really that interested then my old build log lol - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18096877&highlight=lian+startername_neil_g

2Gb DDRII RAM
1Gb ATI Radeon 4670 graphics card
