Yes
I store a back up of my photo's on a USB memory stick, a lot of people like to use CD's does it matter ? a CD is probably easier to break and a USB stick is more likey to get lost, i think the latter is a better choice, an external HD seems a bit extreme unless you're a Pro.

How big is the USB stick?
I've got a small external hard drive for backing up, and also a 1TB external as well. I may not be a pro but I'd be gutted if I lost all my photos.:(

Also, I've had 2 USB stick fail on me so would never rely on them for backup.

There are also a lot of online storage to choose from out there.:)

I back up my photos (and music) to two external hard drives once a month. One I keep at home, the other at work. Belt & braces ftw :)

External HD are not that much to buy you can get some from about £60 ish I got a 1TGb for £69 as for the other USB is limited and cost more per Gb CD well I think DVD would be better.

Obviously you upload your best ones to flickr, would you consider this as online storage and can external HD's fail ?

I bought a freecom 1TB external drive,it packed up after 4 weeks.:(

Everything i have is backed up on two external hard drives and DVDs...

:gag:

get an external hard drive and you wont run out of capacity....an 80Gb sounds like it would do the trick

its not about being a pro its about integrity of the storage media...

Just one external for me that I've had for about 5 years and had a fair few knocks along the way. The way I figure is that it's on my PC and external so when one packs up hopefully the other should hold out in the time it takes me to replace whatevers packed up.

make your own then you can access the hard drive and replace it or the caddy
the hard drive if faulty may still be able to have data recovered
the sealed up jobs cant be opened easily

i have two caddies...the rock for pc drives...and an icybox for laptop drives
i can upgrade easily and still keep the old ones as data storage
