Howdy all,

I am in the process of creating a portfolio/sales site using Wordpress and was looking for a theme which would also allow me to sell prints without having to bolt anything else on. The alternative is to redirect clients to Photobox, which is where I currently have my client galleries hosted.

There are plenty of really good looking themes out there but not too many have ecommerce built-in. One that I have found that appears to tick all the boxes for me is Photocrati - http://www.photocrati.com/ - but it's kinda expensive. I was wondering, therefore, if anyone here uses it (or has used it in the past) and can give me their views on it.

It's ok as a theme and does include an online shopping cart, although it is a bit limited. The limitations of the cart don't allow you to offer different aspect ratios for certain prints. What I mean by this, is if you had a print that you wanted to sell as a square print, for example, then that print option would be available for any other print you offered for sale in that gallery. Even if they didn't suit square printing. But as a theme, it's easy to customize, although there are cheaper themes around that are also easy to customize, but without built in shopping carts.

Thanks for your input. I think that limitation is one I am already living with using Photobox.

Do you know if, when selecting a print, you get to see the image with the selected aspect ratio overlayed so you can see what will actually be printed? Photobox does this and allows you to move the size box around the image like a crop box.
 
Steve, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. No you don't see any overlay with the Photocrati cart and therefore no visualisation of the crop. This is a big downside if you want to offer alternative crop ratio's.
 
Thanks for that Cliff. I decided not to go with Photocrati anyway.

Going back a few years (well, maybe a decade) I used to write html from scratch and create web sites in short order. Having no experience of style sheets and the like I thought I'd use Wordpress and just get a customisable template ... no problem, up and running in 10 minutes according to the marketing hype :nono:

I must be completely missing the point here but I can't get to grips with this at all. Guess I'll have to read the manual again :shrug:
