I have been asked to photograph the first pheasant shoot of the season for the farm i have worked on for the last 3 years.

does anyone have any advice/tips/reccomendations of websites to look at for inspiration?

my gear will be:

canon 20d
canon 40d (borrowed)
canon 17-55 2.8 IS
canon 70-200 2.8
canon 300 4 IS (again borrowed off the bloke i sold it to :( )

all help/advice welcome and appreciated!

Regards
Charlie

300mm on the body you know the best, Stick behind the guns like mentioned. Look also from a distance from the side and take a shot of the people shooting, Gun smoke from a shot looks amazing.

Stay behind the guns, seriously.
very good advice...and take ear protectors
dont interfere with the shooters and dogs

you will get a pair at the end if you dont stick out too much:thumbs:

I would plan the shots that you want ot get and talk it through with people. Assuming this is for publicity stuff then you may want various portrait type shots of the shooters and the dogs. Side shots as said and some still life of the guns/dead pheasants?

You presumably know the shoots and the beating routes so you can think about positioning before hand. Might be worth a walk around with the gamekeeper a couple of days beforehand so that you know which beats they will use and in which order.

//egg sucking lesson:end

If you want sales get loads of pictures of the dogs working and don't take too much equipment, you may have to walk a long way.

Have a look at the shooting pictures section on here:

http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/

They're not brilliant from a photographic point of view but you will see a similar style, of quary, shooter and gun images. Be warned though there will be some grusome pics on there of dead animals that may not be to everyones taste!!

thanks for all that folks, much appreciated!

stay behind the guns- doh!!

shoot from the side, great advice i hadn't thought of.

i'm not overly bothered with sales, i have a garuanteed revenue from the event (all agreed, i's dotted, t's crossed signed contract) although i'm going to push to get more.

in terms of transport, walking is not going to happen, i have use of the farms quad and i know every inch of every flush, shooting stand and anything else on the farm. i also have a farm map and a logistics movemnet sheet informing me of what, when and where. i will be heading down the day before to recce.

only problem is that i'm missing the biggest rally of the year, the world rally championship climax in wales. can't say no to paid work though!!

thanks again, and any more welcome and appreciated!
