This is doing my head in looking for something suitable.

Basically I'm looking for a box/case that I can bolt to the rear rack on my Lambretta, so I can transport my camera/lenses about, and it has to double up to take 2 helmets (instead of not alongside the camera kit)

Therefore the box/case dimensions need to be around 22x16x12 (l/w/h-inches) or in new money 56x40x30 cms.

I did look at the Peli cases, but as I would be drilling/fitting brackets, felt them to be way expensive for what I require.

Looked at the old fashioned aluminium photo cases, but couldn't find one large enough, and the industrial type aluminium cases are way too heavy.

There are more modern 'givi' type top boxes, but somehow don't look right on a classic scooter.

Did consider a Wicker type basket, but don't fancy a couple of grand's worth of camera kit sat on the back of a scooter in something so flimsy.

The box needs to be lockable, don't require much in the way of padding/foam inserts as the kit will be placed in a padded lowepro bag before being secured in the case.

And I would be fitting brackets/clamps to secure it to the back rack of the scooter.

Looking to spend no more than £100

Any pointers/advice/help gratefully received.

Hi Les

I have had a reply from Tom in Leeds, the only suggestion he has woud be look at ScootBoot, Google them.
Not sure if it would be your solution though.

Paul

buy a proper bike instead of a girl's scooter then you'll have loads of room.

Not sure I'd want to put 1000's of pounds worth of gear in anything other than a Givi as a minimum, and not sure a padded lowepro will give you enough protection for the inevitable drop

Thanks Paul, a trailer is an elegant solution, but perhaps a hurdle too far :)

I've seen how much gear you have Les - so maybe something more like this

Here

May impact on performance though :D

Way too small Dave, wouldn't even be big enough for my ego ;)

Gosh, If I'd known buying a classic Lambretta would have such an impact on my sexuality I wouldn't have bothered :bonk::bonk:

i have new top boxes in stock but are only 45 cm x 27cm x 35

£35 but will do some discount with you been a member on here and will sort postage out at cost or you aswell

same as this one here

Thanks Alex, will probably take you up on this, I'll send you a pm, my original idea was probably a big ask anyway.

Motorcycle top box then use removable insert's for when you put your camera gear in it.

Thanks Ian, once I get my top box, I'll look into these

How about this , bit more than £100 though....

Thanks Graham, and looks the business but x2 the maximum I wanted to pay.

Thanks everyone for your help, it is genuinely appreciated.

Top box received (thanks 'wegotiugetit':thumbs: )

Slightly modified, rather than it permanently in place, with the help of a couple of brackets and wingnuts, I can quickly remove it.

A bit of foam lining, and it's just the job :)

Use to ride them back in the 60's now I got a real bike

I was going to get a real bike, but pedalling up the Yorkshire Dales hills is a bit beyond me now ;)

To be honest, being a motorcyclist myself, I carry my cameras and lens in a rucksack on my back, then chuck any other gear like tripod etc in top box. I would not want my kit rattling around in a topbox even with padding, you should see the state of my packed lunch after travelling a few miles in my top box. On another note, that age machine is very easy to get going without keys, so security of the top box would be the least of my worrys.

Looks like you have a very nice example of a early Lambretta thou.

I know what you mean Barry, that's why the top box, as well as being padded, my padded camera bag with my gear inside is placed into the box , as the vibrations from a 60's Lammy can make fillings drop out.

The lammy is for those pleasant summer jaunts up to the Dales, stopping off somewhere to take a few shots, so wouldn't be left for any amount of time.

Most other times, I'd take the car.

Anyway, the Yorkshire Dales are a crime free area aren't they ;)

I don't think so, after spending about 5 hours underground in Alun Pot and returning to find a smashed window in your car.

Anyway off Topix now, I still don't think I would be having my cameras in a top box. If you are going out to enjoy the day on your Lambretta, then travel light and take one body with something like a 18-200 lens.

what Lambretta is that I had back in the 60's a Li 125 Li150 and a TV 175 then I moved over to a Vesper SS180 in Red and full chrome dressed

It's an Li150 -very similar to the one I had in 1968 :)

Lovely scooter you have les ...what a beaut!

You know that box is about as secure as a fart right. ...you’ve probably sussed that already.

Glad you like it, a recent post trying to integrate it into the landscape

And yes, I'm aware the box is as secure as a fart ;) :)
