Yes
Ok, probably another silly question but hey.

I noticed when I takes photos the photos seems to show as off centre, even if I am aiming directly at the subject? I seem to have to angle the camera higher up to be able to get a centred shot

Why is this, is this something to do with the optics of the lens?

The camera was used when brought, and was really dirty, spent ages cleaning it last night :bang:

Are you looking through the viewfinder straight on and also remember that that the viewfinder only shoes about 95% of the actual shot

Yeah looking straight on just it seems really off centre? Bizarre

Do you mean it's off centre on the vertical line? also when you look through the viewfinder do you see a full image? by that I mean is anything strange happening at the top or bottom of the view through the viewfinder and does the whole image look sharp through the viewfinder?

Do you put your left eye to the viewfinder?

It is really really blurry through the view finder, but I can see the whole image

If you take a picture is it sharp, but whilst you were taking the picture did it look blurry through the viewfinder ?

If so, there is a small wheel on the side of the viewfinder, try adjusting that whilst looking through the view finder.

Hard to tell from your explanation, but do you mean as regards focus? Have you inadvertently activated one of the off centre focus points on your camera so you have to aim off target to get it sharp?

First check the dioptre adjustment as leaky5 suggested, although I don't know how that would make the pictures off centre?

Do you or anyone know if it has a replaceable focus screen? if so it could have become dislodged? or perhaps it coud be a mirror problem!

I've encountered this problem a few times and it's invariably been people putting their left eye to the viewfinder having the problem. Using your left eye means your right thumb comes between your face and the camera causing you to tilt the camera slightly left without realising it. Once you're aware of what's happening it's easy enough to correct for it.

With regard to being off centre on the vertical axis, a likely cause is dropping your head to the viewfinder, which means you're not looking through it straight and it's an easy bad habit to fall into. Always keep your head upright and lift the camera up to your eye - don't drop your head to meet it.

I'll rule out a misaligned / damaged lens mount as the photos you posted in another thread looked reasonably OK, maybe a little bit soft but not terribly

sounds to me like there may be a mirror problem, could be its not sitting in the correct position for angling the light into the viewfinder properly

does the image in the viewfinder match the photo taken?, are they offset vertically?

what exactly did you clean? just a bit of dust or greasy finger marks off the outside I hope, or was it more major? Did you clean anything inside?

+1 for the sounding like a misaligned sensor - had a friends A200 do the same. :(

No the image I see in the viewfinder is perfet and centered (just blurry) but when I take a photo and check it, it's totally off centre, by alot! :(

My friend took hers to a local camera shop and they quoted £150ish to sort.

She had the same problem - she had to compose the shot higher. Just pulled the thread and she had the A300 not 200 but exact same problem.

Hmmmm sounds exactly like my problem, how annoying! £150....

Some have been like it when new but others have been dropped. Could you send it back as faulty to who you got it from?

My first thought is "why would you buy a 'really dirty' camera?" To me that suggests it's been abused or, at best, not looked after. The blurry viewfinder suggests you need to adjust it's diopter, you may well have moved the setting when cleaning, assuming of course you had adjusted it to suit your eyesight in the first place.

If you bought the camera from a shop I'd suggest taking it back to them and explaining what's happening, if it is a £150 repair then that's pretty much all the camera is worth, so ......

could still be mirror if what you are seeing through the viewfinder is offset and what the sensor is getting for the photo is correct ;).
It would also explain the blurry viewfinder if the mirror is misaligned as it wont be focussing the image onto the viewfinder properly.

do not be tempted to touch the mirror

of course it could be more than one problem

this is not sounding like a bargain

I didn't buy it knowing it was dirty, I brought it second hand from a website, and it was covered in dust and mud when it arrived :(

There is a wheel next to the flas that I moved by accident whilst cleaning, I think this is the viewfinder setting you are talking about, so maybe I will play around with that tonight and see if that sorts anything out.

Not much of bargain if it does need to be fixed Oooooohh :bonk:

Yep that is the diopter and will possibly sort out the blurry viewfinder.

I would definitely contact the website/seller - sounds very shoddy. Was it ebay?

Ok cool, at least i can get one thing sorted

No it was Preloved :(

Do you think I should email her and explain the problems I am having, as I don't fancy paying out £150 for a camera thats not worth that amount really... :(

It sounds as if you should email and look to send it right back rather than start going down the road of having it assessed for repair etc. You could get it looked at by a camera shop to see if it is a misaligned sensor, but from the state of the camera when it arrived etc I would do the former.

Ok, I had already had a dispute with Preloved as she sent it later than I was expecting, so I have drafted an email and blind copied Preloved admin in and myself :) see how I get one, I have asked for a refund and to send the camera back :(

This is really gutting :(

I think I have done this my self.... still getting used to my camera and got some shots I thought where ok but ended up been off center.... in fact did the same last night....

I will use your advice and see how I get on....

Lol....

Is there anyway that I can check the mirror or sensor is aligned correctly?

I am thinking about sending it off for repair, as I brought it for our holiday in September, so need it fixed :D

Its weird, its not doing it anymore, have been taking some perfect photos this evening and have been testing it alot, and seems to work, maybe it was the way I was holding it as someone suggested?!

Well I am happy anyway hehe :D
