So this guy rigged up the capability to take photos of space (well 22 miles up) for very little money indeed. Clearly he is an awesome of the highest calibre, and I applaud him.

Very clever and all, but as the comments say in the article , it's been done before. ( I bet there is a post about in somewhere in the TP archives.)

Looking at his flickr site, you do wonder if The Sun sponsored him

Brilliant... Exif on his flickr images shows that he uses a Canon PowerShot A560.

Admirable effort in "home engineering" for sure.
Check "ballon space photos" and you'll find others that did this before, including school kids from the US, MIT students ($150 price tag claimed) and a researcher with a K10D (twice).
