What do you guys do?

I have CS5, A3 and LR3 but all my photos and library are in iPhoto. So each time i want a picture i have to import it into the program and then work with it ..

Is this stupid?

Should i delete it all from iPhoto and import librarys to LR or similar?

when you first run Iphoto it asks you if you want to use iphoto to import images, you have clicked yes and that is why it automatically runs and imports them. I don't actually have the programme installed on my Mac but there is a file you can delete that will let you choose again. When you delete it, don't use Iphoto to import images, just click never when it asks you.

its probably called iphoto.plist just do a search and delete it, should solve your problem.

Go to Library then Preferences in your home folder and delete com.apple.iPhoto.plist

It will recreate it when you launch iPhoto. I'm not sure if it will do what Paul suggests but it's worth a go.

but i need to copy all my images from iphoto first .. how do i do that?

Go to your home folder then Pictures. Now right click on your iPhoto library and click 'Show Package Contents'. You will either find a Folder called 'Masters' or an alias called 'Originals'. All your original photos are in there and can be copied.

I use Aperture 3 as my import, processing and viewing software - there is little need for iphoto.

If you pick File>Import>iphoto library then you can import everything into Aperture.

Buy a decent machine and run Windows ;) :p :D

Aperture can see inside the iPhoto file structure and import the photos. Lightroom cannot and you need to extract the files from the iPhoto library first or create and alias to 'Masters' and point Lightroom to this alias..

so what would be best copying all files to lightroom or all to aperture or keep in iphoto?

just wanted to check!

anyway all imported .. but now there not sorted or anything .. just 5000 images all in one folder! i want them seperate in folders like they were in iphoto!! :@

plus how do i make lightroom default and iphoto not?

I've not used Lightroom but believe you can create Collections similar to iPhoto Events. As for making it default I'm not sure as Lightroom doesn't show up in the options. Maybe someone else can help with this.

I import everything as raw into LR. I then export to iphoto at jpg as like iphoto for viewing plus quick uploads to FB, Flickr and email

When you imported to LR, you would have had lots of options. When I did mine. I moved them all from the external drive to the main HD on the computer and into My Pictures folder and put all images in date named folders.

I had images from 2005-til now on there, so it automatically created folders called 2005, 2006, 2007 etc and then automatically created folders for each date of the year if there was a photo taken on that day.

So now, without me doing anything, Ive gone from a blank My pictures folder to one that has every image Ive ever taken in date order folders.
What I have then done is make a JPG export folder in the My pictures folder which contains all the JPG's Ive exported from LR, in that folder I also have a folder called NonWM where I export the same images but without watermarking for upload to stock or print.
