(Done a search but not found any recent posts on this.)

I fancy having a go at producing a slide show linked to music and PTE seems to be one of the better bits of software.

Problem is it is currently £54 from the suppliers (WNSoft Ltd) - a bit expensive when I am not sure I will get much use from it.

Is there a cheaper way to buy it eg do they sell it off cheap when they are about to update it (like PS Elements) or are there cheaper equivalent competitors around now that would be ok for a one off.

I had been told that PTE came with a one month free trial and lifetime support but so far as I can see it comes with only one year's support and no trial period.

Thanks for the two responses so far - I'll check them out.

Well ..... I have downloaded EXESHOW (and I think I have got rid of the junk that came with it) but .... the help menu doesn't seem to work so I have no idea how to use it.

Now found that it seems very difficult to remove all of it once you have it so I've probably made a big mistake ...... dohhh

This seems to be what a lot use, and pro show gold. Both these are used at my camera club.

I couldn't make any sense of EXESHOW so I deleted it (as best I could).

I'd still like t have a go at this slideshow stuff though

It's well worth trying PTE essentials. It will probably cover most, if not all, your requirements and is quite easy to use.

Windows Movie Maker is what I use, you can add Music and text etc, well worth a play

Les :agree:

Yes - could well do but it's just that I want to be sure I will be able to use it - or at least have some idea of how to use it before spending £50+ so .......

Thanks for this - didn't even know it was there

Just had a look at the demo - looks just what I wanted and plenty good enough for me to have a go with.

My version of Movie maker looks different (in layout on the screen) to the version in the demo - but the demo looks to have been made in 2008 - so will be searching you tube later

Thanks again

You can sample PicturesToExe with these shows, the first three are simple productions and the others are a little more complicated. It shows the versatility of the software:

PTE cannot compete with FREE Software on price but it can compete with ANY slideshow software on quality issues.

Hi Elines, please try PicturesToExe software, at wnsoft.com.
You can download a trial version, and you will not be disappointed, in the results.
Best regards, robertg

Thanks for the further info - my general policy is to start with the cheapest when I don't' know much about a subject so that I am better informed on what I want/don't want from whatever it is I am using. So I will give the free Microsoft version a go first - after all, it may do all that I need. But if it doesn't then I will bbe trying the free trial.

Well - just managed to finish my first slide show of a holiday in Portugal, including background music by Portuguese guitarist we saw in Faro.

Very pleased with it - and the free and safe Microsoft Live Movie Maker was perfectly fine for what I wanted.

So thanks to Rhodese and Les for letting me know about it - it was on my PC all the time, just hadn't realised it.

How about sharing on the tube?

Rhodese.
