Just had to send my camera to Sony for repair, the service was exemplary.
I sense you have a real issue with anyone suggesting Play can be excused from their consumer rights so I don't intend to continue this discussion as my point in posting was to ensure the OP was well informed prior to his purchase. The fact remains you may have been lucky with your lens but a lot of manufacturers will refuse to deal directly with a customer and will send you back to the retailer, in Play's case they will also refuse to deal with you as under Jersey law they have no obligation to do so, they also supply non UK items as I originally stated so again you will have no recourse with a UK manufacturer if they choose not to offer any warranty with their non-UK product which again they have no obligation to do.
You pay your money and take your chance with Play is my advice
