please help. advice needed for coursework!

What have you come up with already? A starting point would help others who may want to help you, otherwise it does kind of seem that you are looking for more than you should be.

What did your tutor say when you told him you needed direction or help? Or the others on your course? Did they have any ideas which may inspire you?

it is a photography course and the unit is on architecture so i need to write about what i intend to photograph. what wold be the best thing to write? would churches be a good idea?

In all honesty, you need more help with your course than we can give. Don't use forums as a prop, think about the brief, do some research, see what actually interests you (from many, many sets of coursework in years gone by I can tell you now that if it doesn't you will hate not only the assignment but the entire course) and don't expect anyone, anywhere to tell you "yeah, churches is a great idea" and have that work out for you.

Do you have many churches within near travel distance? Showing all types of architecture? Do you even know what you would be looking for in the design/type/era of these buildings? Churches or Minsters or Cathedrals?

Google a little, get to the library...heck, even take a night off to ponder your options if it is becoming too much.

Are you in your first year?

How about something like 'exploring symmetry in architecture'?

It's one of the 'rules' of architectural photography, and would lend itself to quite a few subjects for you to be able to photograph, from houses through churches to industrial offices.

Plenty to get your teeth in to there.

Something comparing old and new or maybe "derelict" some old derelict building can have awsome atmosphere and giv great images. What course are u doing?

Log on to iPlayer, by Category, History, and have a watch of "how to read a church". That should give you some ideas.

:agree:

That would be a good final piece if you could present the contrast between old and new. But I think your meaning something written?

This seems like a good idea - you need a specific theme that will lend itself to lots of options when it actually comes to taking the pictures (I assume this is the goal?)

What course are you following? If you give me a heads up on the awarding body and level I could look at the spec and advise you from there.

I would agree with exploring juxtapositions of old vs new though; it seems a good starting point. If you need a tog to draw inspiration from you could look at the work of Oscar mazarolli, he shot Glasgow during the 60s when it was going through a radical overhaul and there are some fab images in his shades of grey exhibition of the old buildings being ripped down and the new high rise flats being put up in their place.

Spooks

i need to write about architectural photography and what i intend to take photos of. e.g buildings, churches etc.

I suspect that the brief you're supposed to be working to is a little more specific than that. What is it exactly?
