I have just been asked to do a job photographing a motorsport race series and they are willing to sort media passes out having another photographer already working the series. I have registered with MSV and will contact the other circuits involved but I realise I will need PLI in place to proceed.

Could anybody recommend a firm that might do this at a reasonable cost. I did a search on the forum and most responses related to football or just general insurance. Also my gear is covered under home insurance as I have not worked on a professional bases since doing real estate years ago, so I will need to get separate insurance as well.

Any tips welcome.

I found Direct Line to be by far the cheapest for me this season. £65 for £5million cover compared to over £100 at Simply Business

Any of the specialist photography insurers will offer PLI, such as Eversure for just one of those, don't know if you can just purchase the PLI thou
Thanks they are competitive on camera gear but will not do stand alone PLI which is £82 extra but they are still the cheapest at the moment by just over £112 if I took out full cover so thanks for the tip. Over £200 difference between top and bottom quotes for gear and PLI.

Thanks I will try them for the PLI

Treble check the small print. Most standard PL insurance policies for photography will have motorsport trackside as an exception (likewise with airside and a couple of others).

I am looking at doing the quotes at the moment for myself but my quotes seems to be coming out high. Can anyone suggest best options for trackside Motorsport, what needs to be covered etc.

Did one with just PLI and no gear cover and it came to £75, but with gear cover it's £200, does that sound about right?

PLI is at 5 million

Did that specifically cover trackside, not all PLI cover it, also cover your equipment for theft as you’ll end up leaving kit unattended in the media room whilst out on track. The cost of cover depends on how much kit you need cover for.

PLI sounds about right I did have a quote for less and a few for more. Equipment cover depends on what you are using and whether it is new for old, I was amazed at what mine added up to using new prices.

I went with Eversure in the end they offered the best all round coverage with new for old replacement with car and house cover as well as PLI for motorsport trackside. I felt equipment cover was essential if lugging 2 cameras and expensive lenses around all day with no real safe spot to leave them other than resting up against armco or a fence. There were two other togs I met and one had his shutter go and the other had a battery fail on a 1D and then his AF packed up on his 70-200mmf2.8ii on a second body. I realise it does not help on the day but it will do next outing.

Thanks both. It was through simply business so need to check the small print on trackside .
Is eversure a good insurer for trackside?

Sorry to rekindle an old thread, but does anyone know of insurers that will do PL for motorsport trackside? As Mark said my current insurers and most others specifically exclude it, and its proving bit of a faff to get my insures to sort it.

There must be a firm that can offer quotes off the peg surely?
