Hi all,
Thinking of changing from BT fibre to Plus Net fibre- anyone got any views on Plus Net, good or bad? They are about 8 quid a month cheaper than B T!
Thanks
Steve

Have been with them from the start, on the odd occasion when there help has been needed they were faultless, I had major issues once and it turned out to be an external issue, they dealt with BT arranged engineer and issue was sorted.
And as for cost when I rang them about going unlimited as I had been a loyal customer I ended up paying less for unlimited then I was paying for 10gb a month.
I cannot think of any reason why I would leave them.

I left BT earlier this year even leaving a chunk of my upfront line rental behind due to their pathetic tech support from India. Although PNet is a subsidiary of BT, the difference in support AFAIC is chalk & cheese!

I have been with PN since I think 2003 in the FRIACO days, and to be frank have no reason to change though there is in my experience little given to loyal customers.

I wanted to go fibre and there was little to nothing they would do for me on the prices, the last time I asked was months ago but I doubt that has changed at all. Like other institutions all the best offers are targeted at new customers!

Hi

I moved from talktalk to plusnet on November last year, transfer was smooth and not had any issues. I am on adsl as our exchange has not yet been upgraded.

Also have a look at the cash back sites for any cash back.

Switched talk talk to plusnet in Nov - all went smoothly. Got my cashback too! (use quidco).

Had a few connection dropouts & used their website to report it - a few days later got a comprehensive reply showing stats for my line & how they'd identified & rectified a fault on the line. V satisfied.

Also getting 14.4 Mbps compared with 10 Mbps with Talk Talk (ADSL not fibre).

I've been with Plus for twelve years with two moves and various service upgrades along the way. I am now on an FTTC/phone package and still have the 200MB of web space I was originally given. The support did go distinctly wobbly just before BT bought them as they just grew too fast. Waiting times can be lengthy but at least you get someone you can understand and vaguely knows what they're talking about.

I moved from Talktalk and haven't regretted it. I had a bit of an issue transferring but since then perfect, plus Plusnet is BT

We have plusnet business broadband in the studio. I cant fault it. It isnt expensive and the customer service is very good. Only gripe would be they dont employ enough call centre staff and on average (m-f) it takes about 20 minutes to get through to anyone.

Amazing they are owned by BT. Such a difference. I wanted Virgin but they hadnt cabled out building yet, although grants were available for them to do some work.

Ours is 1.99 a month for adsl and the BT line is something like 12 quid or something. All in for both it is about 17 including vat. I got a 12 month contract.

Look on comparison sites as the girl at plusnet told me no one ever took the deal i got as no one knew it existed.

Only have their ADSL here but it has been 100% reliable for the past year, and almost no throttling noticed.
With previous Virgin you could be on 1MB mid-evening but plusnet is almost always about 5MB
With virgin it was rarely possible to stream youtube at 1080p, now you can usually run the 1440p without buffering, even at 8pm.

It's actually kind of annoying that all the time virgin were reducing speeds the assumption was that local lines somehow could not cope - but it was just them.
And they charged significantly more.

Have you phoned them recently? More like 40 minutes atm! Their switchover process is misleading, in that it tells you you have to be home for an engineer visit. But the engineer only actually visits the box outside, the connection is great though, hopefully won't have to phone them very often.

I'm a business customer so it might be a bit different but I needed to be there for the engineer to fit sockets and run cables. The wait time on the phone is silly though.

I have been with PlusNet since they were Force9 so about 15 year or so if not a bit more.
Their support is good and their prices reasonable.
Sometimes you do have to wait a long time to get them on the support phone and their pricing to loyal customers is not as good as it could be but the service that they give is worth staying and I am not sure who would be any better.
One thing that you should plan for is that their package will be better if you also take a telephone line from them.

They do have a good community forum where the CSC's regularly drop in and pickup on customers concerns.......with many that then get some added impetus behind them.

I can't speak for the fibre service, I'm out in the sticks on ADSL2. However, I've been with them for nearly two years, having previously been with Newnet, and for many years before that, with Pipex.

Connection wise - no issue. I get good service, they bill me a good price. I did have connectivity problems for a little while, I called Plusnet support. I from the start suspected the issue was down to wiring inside my house. Support talked to me like a human being, and didn't drill me through those horrible, painful flow charts, he was genuinely very helpful and knew the technology. I rewired the cabling in the house - and service resumed, We are heavy users - mainly watch on demand HDTV, so a good connection is important to us.

I've had awful support from some previous ISPs - you know the sort - over seas, they drill you through awful flow charts, they come up with rubbish answers, nothing gets done, you have to phone again and again until they actually escalate a real issue to BT. I had one telephone supplier (Talk Talk) where I could see the issue - builders had ripped up the telephone cables from underground with an excavator. All that I wanted was for them to inform BT, but no, they wanted me to test the computer and router etc. So the response that I got from Plusnet was very positive and refreshing.

Under further investigation it seems we will only save about £4 a month switching to Plusnet- hardly seems worth the hassle!

I have been with plus net for 2 years. Switched over from virgin. Trying get them install a new line was hassle, as I had no internet for over 4 weeks cos there were some errors in their part. They made no effort in reimburse me with any offers tho. But since then its been all good. No issues. Stable connection good speed and decent price. All fibre services use the bt openreach network and had been with BT prior to virgin. That had been flawless service as well. So basically for you look for the best price if you are going for fibre as you won't need to call customer services that much. However for the traditional copper wire connection then I would take care and read more into customer care as you more than likely will need to call them several times due to service outage or someone unplugged you line and rerouted a few kilo metres and resulted in massive speed drops etc.

hold on - you are saving nearly £50/pa and potentially getting better service?
All for about 10-15min of time.
Possible more if you use Quidco / Topcashback....

I've been with them just over a year having moved from SKY.
As with the majority of others, the service (speed) is good, and I've only had to deal with the call centre once - I'm pretty sure I contacted them online using my 4g connection. Was dealt with as an educated adult and not a child - that was enough to convince me to stay on. Overall v happy and cannot see any reason to move unless their charges increase dramatically and there are better alternatives around.

have not used plusnet but generally you will get better service from a smaller specialised isp than one of the "big 4" mass market players

Via copper here, on Plusnet for years, and always a good response to issues.

Plusnet for me too for over 10 years no reason to move although the customer service has got a bit slower replying and insist on an engineer visit for everything now waiting on my 3rd visit for a speed issue
