Have nothing to do tomorrow so going ot my local town and trying some portraits (SHOCK!! HORROR!!)

When I go into a shop/building how do I approach the people??

Should I not be nervous?

What do I say

THanks
Matt

Whats wrong with taking a few candid frames? At least then they are not posing or anything. Looks a lot more natural in my opinion

I suppose I could do :D I dont know wheather I will have the balls or not

just flatter them like saying there the next top model etc and it should boost there confidence.

The thing is with that approach if you look like George Clooney is a compliment, if you look like Alan Carr its creepy :)

Best do candids, you cant capture a moment if you have to stop it to give direction

Interesting.

Obviously not in a street type setting, but when I did some studio work as part of a course we spent a resonable ammount of time talking about 'the chat', i.e. making the person feel comfortable in front of the lens.

If you have a decent length zoom lens, candid shots should be a doddle without them being aware they're in the frame sto to speak. Just try and be discrete....;)

If you want somebody posing for you, you're going to have to be prepared for a few knock-backs. :)

If you're going to be doing candids in an area where there are PCSOs or similar it pays to have a chat with one of them first to tell them what you're about.

You're not required to do it, but it will really help if someone feels threatened or concerned by you later on. It always works for me.

So you're implying Matt is a bit creepy?

Haven't you got a girlfriend/family member who would be a willing model?

Last time I went out for the street challenge, I just smiled at them to get them to smile back before I took the shot.
