Does anyone know of a good reference site for posing families? Or maybe someone can give me a few pointers?

Two adults and between 1 and 3 children per family.

Location is outdoors, quite likely will use trees/bushes as an out of focus background.

I need a variation so a standing and seated pose?

think about depth get people seperated, you aren't in a studio so use the space you have, also its not a firing squad so not to formal for gods sake
 
Just Google "posing families" and you'll get lots of ideas
 
That defeats the object of this site doesn't it? Lol

If you catch them having fun you can't go wrong. Maybe get them playing football or some other sport. Talk it through with the parent/guardians but like David said, don't be too formal about it.
 
try having people sitting standing leaning anything to help them relax
also if you have options on locations move and move often, make people feel like it was chosen for them not just bang next bang next bang :D
